The BMW is down again and the D90 is not suit friendly so I have been driving the LWB and it handles like a pig.

Coil spring conversion, bilstiens, sways still on, 225 tires . . . normal truck. Can't go around corners for shit.

What should I do? Buy a jag? A porsche? Or should I go back to EAS?

Haverford to Wilmington under 30minutes

Was the coil conversion with the standard LR factory springs? The spring rate is really soft on them and it being an LWB probably doesn't help. Could switch to OME HD or MD, my 92 RRC with OME HD springs and alot of heavy junk on it handles suprisingly well.

Stiffer springs. I can throw mine around on 7.50s, without swaybars. Of course it's all relative - I can throw the old 735i around more

Shit if a BMW is trash to you guys, what isn't. I still love the '92-'95. No real interest in the new stuff, but am pretty sure statistically that the 7 series are amongst the most reliable cars made.

You want the LWB to take a corner? Get HD springs. They actually lift more through stiffness than height. Take the sway bars off, then throw some gas charged shocks on there. Do not underestimate the importance of a tire with a stiff sidewall, as that's where it all begins. Now RRs tend to have narrow wheels, though I don't know about the 95 model. A good, wider rim, as is fitted to Discovery IIs or P-38 Range Rovers will go a long way to allowing you to fit a more suitable tire. You can make just about anything corner on rails. Once you get used to it, you might find life better with the sway bars, but I prefer them off, as on any vehicle a little lean can help that outside front tire grip the pavement and keep your line.

Cheers,

Kennith

Huh? A friend of mine bought a 3-years old 750iL in Germany for $27k; within five years, he had spent at least as much fixing EVERYTHING in this car. The only car worse than this 750 was my old 1984 Chevy Caprice (bought for $1.00).

Ron, my 95 with air springs corners pretty much like a stock 5-series. It may even do better, but, unlike the beemer, it won't swing the tail out - and that scares me, cause it can flip without much warning.

Sounds like my Disco.

My point really was that BMW are not trash as far as quality and reliability goes (in general) this is reserved for cars that consistantly end up near the bottom of the statistics, like Jeep, Land Rover and Kia.

I won't argue about your friend 740, I am talking in general. Honda, Toyota, Lexus, infiniti, Acura, Nissan, BMW and others are pretty much always towards the top of many reliability ratings, but of course these are just statistics and they vary from source to source...YMMV.

Okay, (sorry off topic and a highjack) what is a good reliable car along those lines? My wifes 4 year old audi has 68k miles, we put $2k into it this summer for repairs and it is acting up again. We discussed replacing it with a BMW, Saab, Volvo but I have heard all of those new are having problems. Any suggestions on a good reliable car?

As for the crappy handling rover, don't forget its not a 540i. Slow down? :)

Hmmm ... tempting, but maybe to ostentatious for salt lake city. :)
