Talk me in or out of it.

Have my eye on one with 90k miles, already has coils, newish tires, head gaskets and a fresh PA inspection for 6k asking.

Funny, I thought you were smarter than this.

Is it a GEMS '99, or a Motronics '99?

That said, the later years of the GEMS were more robust as far as the electrics were concerned, but you'll still have potential problems with the fusebox and water ingress, heater core o-rings, lock assemblies are failing left and right as they get older, window regulators fail on a daily basis (I really should start stocking them).

If it's a Motronics, make the seller put plug wires on it before you buy it and make sure they are Magnecors! Also, make sure it has the newer plenum deicer assembly on it. Buy an MAF and transmission position switch to keep in the glove box, just in case!

I am plenty stupid. I have owned nearly 20 land rovers in the last 10 years. (Shout out to Merc63 for getting 100 cars in 30 years. You sir are my hero.)

As a 1999 4.6 HSE is HAS to be bosch (in 1999 you could not get a GEMS 4.6 other than the callaway).

Has lightstone leather (Ron likey) and white gold (ron dislikey) and it is 3 miles from my house (which means I probably will remember it from when it was in at the dealer and I worked there).

I have driven them before. If the seat rocks, I am not even going to bother to start it.

Ron

PS pleased when behind the wheel only applies to driving the lotus.

Tried to talk a friend out of buying one, failed miserably, he ended up buying 2 within a week with extended warranty a black 2000 with under 60K and a Dark Blue 01 with 70k from the same dealer, both immaculate (well until he scuffed the unmarked "smoke finish" wheels on an easy introductory trail). I even dragged him down to EE apparently to no avail.
The Blue one now runs 20", running boards, borla exhaust, and yellow lamp guards:eek:
The Black one will supposedly be a trail vehicle.

Some pictures of several P38's can be found athttp://conalmack.spaces.live.com/

If you mean "rocks" as in actual motion, just know there is a TSB for this. You can fix it yourself in under an hour for no money.

If you mean "rocks" as in feels good, then don't even bother asking for the key. I have never sat in seats more comfortable than a P38. Well, except for maybe for the drivers seat in my old 1964 Valiant convertible.

Actually rocks back and forth. I know of the TSB but it does not fully fix it in my experience.

I looked at this one tonight. It is pretty nice. Body is awesome, only let down was (1) seat rock and (2) wear on both lower cushions of the front seats.

I am thinking about it, but will likely pass. It is very nice for a p38a and the price is right.

Guy who owns it is a tech at LR Willow Grove. Motor is dry, has a new rad, an unburnt fuse box, a new rear hatch seal, almost new michelins and nearly new brake pads.

It also successfully made it through every position of the HVAC without having an alert and its on coils already.

Just can't bring myself to buy it . . . .

lol! I used to have a shop building custom cars, race cars, and street rods/hot rods. So I built a lot of projects (like over 30 custom aircooled VWs as well as a lot of cheap sports racing cars).

While I've stopped doing that sort of cycling with the cars, I still have a number of them to work on...

Oh, and how much rocking are we talking about in the setas? The one I just bought doesn't rock, but I want to know what to look for in the future...
