Get an Uber account and a metrocard.

You're in Brooklyn? Then you should be rolling around on your narrow-handlebar, fixed-gear bike while wearing skinny black jeans. Maybe a fedora instead of a helmet.

I can see it has been WAY too long since I was last in NYC.

Go for it, but...

If it won't be driven frequently, park it in a parking garage with assigned spaces so you can fir the truck up and drive it around the parking garage and back to its space.

Sounds silly but if you don't get it to op temp, turn the gears, use the brakes, etc. you're just wasting the truck.

Check coolant frequently, check oil frequently.

Enjoy your truck knowing that if caught in the center of a bunch of bikers, you'll be fine!

When I worked in the city I saw a LOT of nice, older cars covered in dust in garages. Old Jags, Mercs, british roadsters.... poor cars. Do that to a beater civic, not something cool.

I have a 97 disco in Brooklyn that I basically only use on weekends and it runs great (actually better than when I drove it daily). Parking in BK is easier than Manhattan as you only have to move your car once a week for alternate side parking.

Plus, my steel bumper and tow hitch keep touch parkers at bay. There are a ton of RRCs, D90s and Discos in the area.

LOL!!!
I am 3 generations from Manhattan (a Manhattan Knight) as we call it and both of my parents had cars. I have always had a car. When you grow up in Manhattan you have a car for weekend trips to up state NY, to go skiing or out to the beaches on Long Island. So you don't have to deal with the tourists on weekends.
I have a place in Brooklyn since 1995 and I have an indoor garage where I can park. We do have a lot of Hipsters, but they are not originally from NYC, but they try real hard LOL. I don't drive in the city I have a Bianchi bike that I use for getting around and yes I wear a helmet. Don't want to end up being hit by a Honda, a Toyota a Ram, or a Ford F150 driver from out of town.
The D1 would be my weekend truck to go camping upstate, skiing in the winter, visiting my sisters place in East Hampton so I can take my 9'4" longboard and my australian cattle dog and surf at Ditch in Montauk. I live btw NYC and LA due to my work and I have crossed the country 4 times in 2 years on my LR3 and done some off-roading with it in Cali. I used to repair my RR Classic 88, 91 and the D2 1999 I had. The D1 would be the 5th Rover so I am familiar with Rovers

But I must say the LR3 has been the best and most reliable Land Rover I have ever owned and I have put it through hell and back.

Sounds like you already made your mind up.

Having a car while living in NYC inst a necessity but it is nice to have one to get the hell out of there once in a while.

There are old Rovers all over BK. I'd love to be the guy issuing the repair bills to their owners. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
