Tire on the hood of a disco 2? Good or bad idea?

I thought it would be cool to have a tire on the hood of my disco 2 just like the series land rovers do. Does anybody know where I can get a hood mount? Do you think that it would look cool?

On your rear door.

Do I think that it would look cool? It is quite functional, some weight moved from the rear to the front, but I am not sure what would you see behind it.

At your mom's
Hmmm.

With my rattly-ass door hinges, this may be a cheapfuck solution to prolong an inevitable hinge replacement.

Let me know how this works, 001.
With photos.

This should be hilarious.

Forward visibility kind of sucks in a Disco anyhow.

I like the idea but I just don't think that it would work.

How tall are you?
I've never had issues with forward visibility in a Disco (Situations like this excluded).

I thought of putting a spare tire on the hood; I can relate to 235 being borderline, and 265 - prohibitively thick. OTOH, since 95% of lifted Discos on oversized tires I see around have stock-sized spare, why not... I'd rather have two jerry cans on the rear door and spare tire on the hood.

Here's an idea....throw a tire on the hood and drive around the block. You'll get a feel for how bad of an idea this is.

Not to mention the thought of a heavy tire/wheel combo mounted to a flimsy hood and what might happen in an accident.

You'll be eating through a straw the rest of your life.

Series trucks bopped around at far slower speeds. DIIs cruising at 80mph will have different consequences.

Okay. I get it, bad idea.

At least you admitted it before it went too far ... these kinds of questions tend to drag on for ages because the OP normally defends to the end their position ... which is normally ludicrous.

Series trucks had dished hoods and ran really skinny tires. I think on the hood of my 109 the tire sits a good two inches below level so it's not in the way as much as it would be on the hood of a Disco. And honestly ... can you imagine trying to pop the hood with an off-road tire planted on top? Nevermind the fact that you wouldn't be able to see past it to begin with.

Hmmm, lots of heat from the engine and lifting the hood should be a lot of fun. Would you be able to actually lift the tire onto the mount in the middle of the hood?

Ok lets put it like this, With stock tires:
You lose A LOT of visibility
The hood cannot support it and will give in if anything touches the tire
If you crash, the tire will go through the windshield and probably plaster your face to the seat
you cant open the hood
and it looks really stupid.

OK, let's get at it.

So far, since nobody's done it, you don't have any idea of how much visibility you lose.

The hood cannot support it, all right, but it can be fixed with two cross-bars underneath. And hood needs to be pinned, so it never flies open.

Lifting the hood is piece of cake, that's what tailgate gas struts are for.

What kind of fucking crash does one have to get to, for the rubber donut to go through a Rover's windshield? Short of falling off Lion's Back?

Looks stupid? No more than zebra-striped, Camel Trophy-stickered, gazillion lights-equipped, rollin' on 285/75s, Disco with stock diffs.
No more than Americans using British automotive terms or calling their trucks "Landies."

And if you guys have never moved, out of curiosity, a hundred pounds worth of shit from the rear to the front of a Disco or a Classic, you may not be aware of change in handling that could be gained.

Thank you for this. I especially like it when they spell "tyre".
