This is how I recently did a 99% exchange of my old grotty, brown tranny fluid on my '95 D1 for an equal amout of new clean, pink delightful fluid:
Parts/Supplies:
3 gallons tranny fluid
funnel that fits tranny dipstick hole
16oz/500ml PET water bottle
Gallon milk jug (or similar)
2 feet (or so) 5/8" ID hose ( old heater hose worked great)
Hose clamp (not really needed)
tranny cooler o-ring (or just re-use)
The Operation:
1. Drain tranny fluid from transmission. Measure the amount of fluid that came out. I got about 1 gallon out of mine. Replace drain bolt. Add as much new fluid as was removed (a gallon or so).
2. Empty water and milk bottles if not already empty. Cut top off water bottle and place under top tranny cooler pipe at radiator (to catch tranny fluid from connection). Remove the tranny cooler pipe from radiator and retrieve the o-ring for re-use (or discard).
3. Attach hose to radiator at the tranny cooler connector (the one at the top of the radiator), Use the hose clamp to secure (I didn't use one). Put the other end of the hose in the empty gallon milk jug. I used milk jugs so I can easily see the level as it fills up. One could re-use empty tranny fluid bottle emptied in step 1.
4. Start the engine and run for about 30 seconds, until you get about a gallon of the old brown glop in the gallon jug. Shut off engine. (be quick because the the gallon jug will fill up pretty fast)
5. Put another gallon of new fluid into the tranny. Empty old fluid from the milk jug (or get another milk jug) and repeat steps 4 and 5 twice more, so that all three gallons of new tranny fluid have been used.
6. Re-connect the tranny cooler pipe to the radiator (don't forget o-ring). Recycle the old tranny fluid.
7. Check fluid level in tranny, adjust if necessary.
