I am relocating to N. Virginia and looking for trails, clubs, and folks to hit some trails with. I have seen pics (on DW) of trails in GNF, can anyone tell me how to find these and any other trails in the tri-state area. Thanks.

I'm locate in Charles Town, WV. Just picked up my fist LR. 97 D1....got a blown head gasket and a few other things to fix before I hit the trails, but once it's done I'll be heading out to GWNF for some trails. Look for Dictum Ridge, Saltshed, Meadow Knob, and Flagpole Knob. You'll find plenty of 4x4 clubs talking about them. I have the coordinates for trailsheads if you can use em'

Wow, thanks JahRasta that is very helpful - i really appreciate u taking the time to reply. Sure the GPS stuff would be great when ya get around to it. I'm looking to upgrade my tires to something like a 235/70/16, what r u running? I met another guy that wants to head over there too, let me know when you get your rig together so we can try to meet up. I,ve been to/through Charles Town a few times, lived there long?

Where in NOVA are you moving too? Most of the stuff around here is down in Harrisonburg.

Yeah no problem, been in the CT area for awhile now. Atleast 5-6 years. The ol' lady is from Mt.Airy, MD. so after some schooling in Savannah, GA. we moved back up here. Love WV and what it has to offer. Anyhow, just bought the truck and it currentyl has 255/75/16 on it.....gonna hopefully stick a lift under this thing and looking to put some mud cutters 235/85/16's Yeah we'll definately hook up. Have to grab old school, too.

I'd suggest a Virginia/West Virginia Atlas and Gazitteer (sp?). I don't get a chance to head out much in VA with deployment schedules but when in Utah it was great for finding fire roads, ect. for "scenic byways" the Rover could take!

Over the fourth we headed out towards the Seneca Rocks area of WV and along the way hit a few fire roads for some fun off Rt. 33 west of Harrisonburg.

Good Luck!

Much thanks, AMCM, I appreciate your input. Great idea and it reminds me that I've seen state topographical map books at Cabelas. thanks again.

i have a 97 disco with OME HD and 235/85, roof rack, bumper. its dark blue and the one side is beat up. im about 15 minutes west of Martinsburg off rt. 9, close to Sleepy Creek. There are some trails up there when the gates are open. I havent taken mine off road in over a year or so. Most of my playing has been on the motocross track.

Always interested. Tough to get in schedule and fit the budget. I love that part of the country, and would love to see the countryside.

Seneca Rocks area is great. I used to head up there every fall and rock climb.

In my part of the state, the gas well drillers, mining comapnies and Hatfield - McCoy trail systems have really limited the areas you have access too. :banghead:

Make sure you join ROAV.

Come to a few MAR work days and you can run some trails w/o the crowds, and meet lots of cool folks too. :)
