Trans Case to Transmission leak

Recently installed a used transmission.

However after the install I have a Minor leak at the transfer case/transmission connection.

Q: Is the only seal between the two the seal on the output shaft of the transmission?
(if No)
Q: Do any of the connecting bolts need thread sealer?

or does that not make any difference and the leak is coming from the shaft seal.

The leak is minor, so it can wait, but it also means water/dirt can get in - if fluid can get out.

Let me know if there is a simple fix here that I may be missing, or is it remove TRans Case and new seal time.

Thanks
Ed

FWIW, the leak must be far back, as the fluid is showing up on the TC cover bolts at the bottom, so definitely seeping through somewhere very close to the junction.

There is a radial seal at the back of the governor housing and there is another at the input to the transfer case-the good thing is that it's the same part!

It's really common to chew up the seal on the t-case when assembling the transmission to the t-case. If you use longer alignment studs, it's less likely to happen.

Thread sealant on the bolts would probably be a good idea as there are several that are below the lube level.

Cheers,
PT

I will try the thread sealer on the lowers and see what happens. I was pretty careful because I could see the seals, but, as always there was a little grunt and moan as this surgery was performed on the floor up.

Thanks PT, will report after the weekend.
