HI folks,

Looking to get some new tyres for my disco and wondering about sizes. I fancy going a bit bigger but dont want to go down the route of a suspension lift.

From what I can gather 245/75R16 (30.5") are the biggest you can go with no lift and a bit of rear body work trimming. Unfortunatley my friendly tyre man cant get that size in my price range. He can get me 265/70R16 (30.6") however.

Does anyone see any problem with fitting them?

Cheers

Jon

I put Bridgestone 245/75r16's on my 90 Range Rover. Had to fix the air dam where it would rub the right front tire in a turn. But that's not bad. I plan on going with a 2" lift, so I should have no problem in the light terrain I normally drive. I know you're in the UK, so you probably don't have the same sources we do, but I like the look of the Goodyear MT/R's in that size. Came stock on J**P Rubicons. Lots of owners here ditch the stock tires for bigger meat, and the stock tires can be found on craigslist or local 4x4 shops for half the price of new.

Learn how to spell correctly: T-I-R-E.
J/k - sorry I couldn't help it :p

Dont worry about it. We british are used to people misspelling the english language. With a bit of practice you will get it right :p

As far as I am aware a Tire is a steel band on a wheel like on cart where as a Tyre is pneumatic rubber.

I have decided to go for the 265/70R16 colway muds as they are only ?46 ($91)each. (They infortunatley dont make 245/75R16's. Given I only paid ?1000 ($1980) for the disco I cant justify spending ?100+ each for BFG's etc

I am going to avoid the 2" lift for the moment, dont get me wrong I am very tempted, becasue its spending more time on road than off at the moment. Plus, I am totally broke having just started a new job!

In the future I may well fit a lift but as it had just had new standard height springs fitted before I bought it (only had it 3 months) it will do as stock.

Whatever you do, stay away from the Goodrider retreads. In spite of waht the UK mags say, they suck.

I had a set on my 109 I imported from Chapel en le Frith. I swapped onto my Disco to go wheeling and this is what happened.

Not a good advert for them! I think goodriders are made or supplied by Bronco4x4. They dont list them on their website anymore so there may have been an issue with them??????????/

I am getting some colway remoulds. I have used them before on my 88's and 109's and they have been great. Had a set that took me all around north africa in an old 88" diesel and another set on a stage 1 V8 that got no end of abuse both on and off road.

I run 235/85r16 interco trxus MT's on my d2 with no rubbing. no adverse effects on an 8" wheel either. they are narrow though. but perform well for me.

Im running a set of 3 inch aluminum spacers with relocated shocks and a front drivesheaft spacer. I also just lowered the bump stops a bit with my own spacers laying around the shop. The wheel tire combo is stock D1 rims with 305/75R16 BFG MT's (33x12.50x16).

At full lock I can rub on the control arms a bit with the tires, so I changed the steering stops to prevent that from happening. Other than that they wheel really well and I have not had any issues either cruising 70+ MPH or articulating without contact to the boddy.

I Also run Goodyear High Miler AT which is called size R16 mounted on Series 2A steelies and they measure about 31 to 33 but are only 9.5 wide. They cruise really good with less rolling resistance and I wheel them just as hard as swampers or you typical mud terains.
