Jake, Use the metal valley gasket, seal the edges of the end seals and all around the coolant passages and you should be good to go.

Roger that! thanks

I have minor amounts of oil leaking out the back of my intake gasket. How big is the job? Assuming I have RAVE, am reasonably capable though short on experience (did brakes/bearings last summer), have all the tools and parts, and a some decent help (it usually pays to have a second set of eyes on a project).

It's not hard, just take your time the first time make sure you loctite all the bolts etc. I havent had an issue with composite gaskets until this time..

Just bought a set of ford 19# injectors to make the tear down worth while :D

If you have blown through a valley gasket that quick its not the gasket its the mechanic.

It's not fucking rocket surgery.. You take off the intake and replace the gasket... apparently it's advised to use sealant even on a composite gasket which I was unaware of since the Disco Rave doesn't advise it.

I had to do mine twice just to get it to line all up. I tried to do it quickly and not remove the valve covers.. wrong! And that was with the metal gasket. Im going to bet it got pinched/folded in that spot somehow. I put the end caps on first (second attempt) and tightened them a little until the gasket holes matched the ports better then put the intake in place.

I wish this was the case. In still scratching my head on exactly how this happened. I wish I could confirm exactly what the issue was. Wondering if head gasket is bad and it's pushing the coolant out. I should have checked coolant for exhaust gases prior to tear down but I was banking on loose bolt or fucked up gasket neither the case.

FYI. After I did all that is when my head gasket blew, so actually had to do it three times. :banghead:

I had brandy new Britcrap "new" style metal/rubber valley pan gaskets leak out of the box before. actually both times i tried them. Never had an OEM from the dealer leak and I have done maybe 60 of those? cant count exactly....

poor POS parts dont make a bad mechanic. maybe bad judgement though...

Well shit got the new gasket on etc but it's still leaking coolant. However now that I have a mirror for a gasket I can see where it seems to be leaking from. It looks like it's leaking right off the bottom of where the heater hose comes out of the front of the intake. I remember reading a long time ago that part is pressed into the intake and can be replaced?

Thoughts, suggestions? Time to start on replacing the steering box! oh joy!

Are you talking about that coolant tube that sticks out of the right side of the intake and has an o-ring?
Pull that thing out, smear a little Right Stuff around the o-ring, and stick it back in.

The little one on the drivers side is pressed in. Yours may be corroded, happened to one of mine. Either loose or corroded, you'll need to right stuff or JB weld one in place.

Easy fix to your problem though.

Cool deal hopefully thats the source because if not I am going to lose my mind! haha

On a positive note the new steering box is in and my D1's old HD stuff is being moved over onto it.. she's coming together nicely
