Today my Check Engine Soon light started blinking after about a week of running rich and a very rough/ stumbling Idle. It has gotten progressively worse since then. Now it almost dies when I push the pedal down and has very little power. Heres what I know so far:

-New plugs yesterday (Cheap autolites)
-I have spark at all 8 cylinders
-black soot ring on tail pipe from running rich for about 1 week
-I've replaced the MAF sensor before on this truck (~30,000 miles ago)
-CES blinks after driving it about 150 yards
-CES does not blink at all when it is idled in the driveway for long periods
-heavy fuel/ rotten egg smell
-Y pipe cracked at passenger side flange with manifold (fixed)

What I've done to troubleshoot---

-when I pull the engine management fuse and drive CES does not blink
-When plugged or unplugged the MAF does not change anything
-some plug wires seem to come off fairly easy without the "snap"
-checked to ensure all plugs are tightened correctly
-all plugs are gapped correctly according to sticker under hood
-put in a can of bg 44k 1/2 of a tank ago (tank now on E)
-cleaned MAF with CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner

Has anyone experienced anything like this and can point me in some sort of direction. I'm leaning MAF and O2s but still am not positive.

Thanks:victory:

What did the plugs look like? Were they all black and sooty or were some black and some okay? Also, check ALL your fuses just to be safe.

rotten egg smell? thats not good....running too rich for too long will fuck up your cats.

like above, get the codes and don't drive it.

i think the blinking light means that there is catalytic damage being done.

prob some kind of misfire but we need a code to get started.

Going to buy a code reader today, should have something on what codes I pulled tonight. Don't worry, truck's sitting in the driveway for the next little while. :ack:

scanner is good to have. or, you can go to auto parts store, have them use their scanner (free) and get the codes. then, do a compression test if its a misfire code.

compression test or leakdown tests are good on older cars no matter the mileage.

a code is a good start but a compression check would at least tell you it is nothing mechanical/internal. so, i would get the code and if it doesn't point to something obvious then do a compression check before digging into maf's, o2 and temp sensors ;)

Hate to ask this, but are you using Premium fuel in it? I know that at least in my 04 DII, I ran Regular Unleaded in it once about 4 months ago to be cheap, and it ran like crap. Had misfires all the time and a CES light came on indicating multiple cylinder misfires. Just a thought.

sorry for the delay, it threw MAF low imput, Engine misfire Cylinder 2 and 8 and also Engine misfire detected low fuel. As of right now I am going to replace the MAF and my plug wires and see what happens
