I recall a quote from the early 1970's....

"Rover goes on despite upper management."

I don't think any other organization has managed to survive as many bone-headed corporate decisions as Land Rover. This might be the proverbial last straw.

RIP, Rover....

Because it was most certainly not AWD drive cars styled by footballers wives that made the marque great

The Defender always lent Land Rover a measure of respect. When you picked up a Range, or god knows what now, you knew it had a pretty decent pedigree. If they could make a decent commerical 4x4 the civilian version was probably pretty respectable.

Killing the Defender will allow them to focus on their core market but at a price. Their sacrificing a piece of their identity. The Land Rover label will mean a little less after the Defender goes.

I am very pleased that they did not kill the defender, I think the new design is not too bad actually.
