chambered in 5.56? What's the quality of said company that is no longer around compared to others?

I've been toying with the idea of an AR recently, but have learned they can be had for under $700.

Under $600, really.

I've been trying to piece one together that won't explode when I pull the trigger for under $600. So far, it isn't happening. Problem buying used is everyone trying to sell an AR thinks it's the cats ass and wants $900+.

I just shipped a slide off to have new sights installed. Maybe that'll hold me over.

There isn't much info on this West Tek Inc company out there. Did read the story of the owner- tragic.

From what I can tell, the company had a tie with United Arab Emirites, perhaps that's where they had some manufacturing done. As for quality, there are a few forum posts about decent quality and the price being a little lower than a stag arms AR.

How much was this rifle brand new, or was it purchased used?

Do you have one of these Dan? If so who did you get the lower from and how does it hold up?

A buddy of mine ordered the M16A1 kit. Everything but the barrel is "new old stock", meaning it's old unused shit that's sat in crates until now. The barrels are brand new but do not have front sights. The bolt carrier has been machined to semi-auto. The only thing I do not like about the M16A1 is the 20" barrel.

We made our own lowers.

I've been considering a del-ton. I knew they were on the cheap, but that always worried me.

Del-ton, JT, Model 1, etc are all cheap and have decent reputations. I haven't heard of any of these going kaboom.
For about another $100 you can piece one together with a CMMG or Spikes Tactical upper.
All forged lowers are essentially the same, so get the cheapest one you can.

My Del-ton works great (only 260 rnds fired so far, but no malfunctions or real signs of wear), and I recently put two more together.

Are private-party sales kosher in NC, or do you have to go through FFL?

How many rounds through it? Are the barrel and bolt chrome-lined?

$800 is too high, mate... Cut that in half, and we might be talkin'.

This implies there are many that do. Which are those that do?

Actually, I haven't heard of any going KB with factory ammo.
I have heard of Olympic rifles having a lot of misfeeds, but that's about it.
There's some other cut-rate kit maker (can't remember their name) that has major issues with quality, so I've heard.

Anyway, $800 for the above rifle isn't bad with the free-float handguard if he throws in at least 4 pMags and if it has less than 100rnds down the pipe.

A guy I used to shoot with had his uber high $ competition revolver explode with Winchester factory loads.

It happens. Not as often as with handloads, but it happens.

I also knew a guy whose Broadway Browning had a banana peel barrel-we think a kid put a candy wrapper down the barrel at the trap range.

Unfortunately, I agree. We know nothing about the rifle's quality or the life expectancy of the parts used to build it. The company has little to no reputation (perhaps it was a great company, and I'm sorry for the tragedy that ended it).

I'm still curious what you payed for it. And I second what Knewsom said, cut the $800 in half and I'll be first in line with serious interest. But when a brand new one from known companies can be had for under $200 more, there is steep competition. I obviously can not say what the true value of the gun is to others. You might just get $800 for it, and I hope you do. But for me, can't be comfortable with it.

By all means, not trying to insult you Reed. Just my two cents...

edit: maybe the fact that it's a low production rifle increases the value? I don't know enough about them to say. Good chance, I reckon.

I was referring to stories of AR15s going KB. I haven't heard of any issues with any brand.
Not if you wanna talk handguns, I hear about KBs in Glocks more than any other gun.

I bought the rifle from a friend, who built it. He has too many ARs and too many other rifles, as well as too much money!! I bought it from him 1 year ago and he had only put about 300rnds through it, mostly reloaded rounds. Since I have owned it, I have put roughly 1100 rnds through it. It has been religiously cleaned after each outing.
I purchased the rifle for $1000. It came with 2 Pmags and 300rnds. I too, had trouble finding much info on the rifle itself or the company. I do know that they were low production, and manufactured here in NC.
To answer earlier questions, yes it has chrome lined barrel and bolt. From what I've been told it has a match grade Chip McCormick trigger.
As for price, I can't cut the price in half. I can understand that many many other ARs can be had for at or around 500. But to build this rifle, would end up being much over the top. I do not know what the retail on the lower was when bought, but I can get that information.
