day2: I made an Expo trip to Walmart to stock up on supplies. I bought a foam ice chest, American Flag chair and a case of Natty Light. Still debating on what camping gear I need. I think I'm going to go with the two man dome tent. stay tuned for more...

day 2 update: I locked my keys in the truck while moving stuff around at work. Had to get a coworker to drive me home for the spares.

:D

If you are only going to use it once or twice and are over the age of 40, you will need a roof top tent to be taken seriously. And remember, if you are not using Snow Peak, then you are car camping and not overlanding.

Day 3: I ran around looking for all my expedition gear, spent an hour hooking up the trailer and hit the road. Got 10mpg, only could do 45mph up hill. Made it to cottonwood where I stopped at Walmart to replenish my supplies and headed off to camp.

Set up camp in a nice horse pasture. Got the tent up with no problems. Hooked up the fridge to the trailer battery. I noticed it wasn't keeping temp while plugged into the truck. It's better on the trailers battery. Overnight battery fell to 12.4v (optima blue top).

Day 4: breakfast of poppy seed muffins and gatorade, I met up with the trail leaders for Devil's Bridge. Part trail run, part hike. I made it to the overlook before my legs said " ¡no mas!". I stopped there and waited for the rest to return. Lunch of granola and water. I left the buns for my ham sandwiches at camp. Truck ran excellently. Drove back to cottonwood on the way back for gas and ice.

Night 4:
Burgers Amore food truck was in camp for dinner. We had a chance to look at the raffle items for Saturday night. We all sat around and talked, enjoyed beer and wine. I didn't get many pics, just a few of my mini Rover next to full size trucks.
here's the Raffle truck:

Here are two D90s with their 1/10 scale cousin:

And here's an exploded ball off of someone's 110. I hear they shipped parts in to fix it by Sunday:

Day 5 (Saturday) brought a round of challenges. I didn't participate, but spectated for the day. A few groups ran trails, and there was a tour of a local winery.

Winching challenge:

Saturday night was another food truck, Bayou by You. Very good Cajun food.

Chad Manz came around with two bottles. This is the one I sampled:

By the end of the raffle, I won two items. A power tank setup and a recovery strap.

oh…come on
it's a rover play party…

I gotta question why you'd NOT run trails as part of the Rally on Saturday

day 6: There were trails to be run, but I discovered a leak in my heater core bypass. I elected not to run the trails just in case. Instead I spent three hours packing up camp and heading out. As I got to the main road, I hear something dragging. When I checked it out, I found I broke the suspension on the trailer. It's a front axle off a 1960's chevy. The left tie rod end fell apart letting the right tire rub against the frame. I used part of a tie down strap to hold it together to get into Cottonwood. I parked in the Home Depot parking lot and walked over to O'Reily Auto Parts. They were useless. Without year, make, model and trim level they couldn't look up a part. And if they could order it, it would be Tuesday before it could be delivered. So I went back to HD and dug around for a solution. I came up with 12ga bailing wire. I wrapped it around the joint and tried it out. My goal was to get it to my friend's house in Cottonwood, but it turned out he was in Colorado for the weekend. I ended up driving back to Phx very carefully.

I'm now sourcing a regular trailer axle for it. I'd love to get Rover bolt pattern, but best I can find is $400 plus shipping from Australia.

That'll be in Lucky8 calendar :)

I have another question... what's up with masking out vehicles license plates?

some people don't like their info posted. If the plate is readable, I'll try to mask it.
