I am going to change careers soon, and will be changing my personal email address as well. I will be joining LinkedIn & Facebook soon and I'm not sure I want to stay with hotmail. FWIW I plan to upgrade to an Andriod phone soon as well if that factors into things. I am a Windows user.

This is a good question as I have never been to thrilled with msn but I use outlook for all my email accounts anyway.
I would be lost without outlook.

I've used them all at some point or another. Gmail is probably the one you want to go with these days... robust feature set, large per-mail capacity, and easy to use.

x2 on gmail. Haven't had any issues with mine (had it for a couple of years), plus since you are going Android, you will need that account anyway... I do use Outlook at work and have it on the home computer, but stick with gmail for personal use.

P.S. I just made a switch from Crackberry (which I initially loved) to Android (Samsung Skyrocket Galaxy II IIRC) and I really love the latter, since it actually has a large screen and lets me do what i want to.

If you get an Android, you'll have to get a Gmail account. You might as well use that.

I've had my own domain for probably 10 years, and I use that for my email. currently I don't even have a web page, just the email. I set up a couple of accounts for my phone and tablet so I can send/receive mail specifically at each device. Works well for sending myself .apk files.

Just another way for google to make money. I don't think I really care I've had gmail since the beginning it has served me very well. I also swear by Motorola Android phones

Fuck Google....they're turning into Microsoft - wanting to dominate everything. I really don't want a company compiling all of my internet activity, which is what they are doing.

How do you access the 'net? What ISP do you use? They generally have email accounts. I've had AT&T and Time Warner. Both let you set up additional accounts, so I have a "family" account and a "personal" one.

Yes, but the problem becomes portability, if you change providers, you will not have access to your AT&T email anymore.

sign up for a domain on godaddy and get an email plan. youll have a small fee but you control the email address and logs.

gmail is best for free though.

I'd be way more worried about the info that facebook steals, than what gmail does.
Go with gmail, it's always been good to me.

I had a FP page for one day. Hate it
Found a couple old friends. Then realized I didn't care what they are eating for dinner.

I use Gmail. I have my work email forwarded. Gmail is setup to answer the work ones with my work email address and my personal ones with that email address. I also keep a lot of things I use for business stored with Google Docs so I have access no matter where I am, including my Android phone. Works great.

Google/ if your gonna use an android phone then G mail is going to be the easiest choice. Ive used yahoo since 96 or something. But it is shared with my wife and usually overrun with girly offers and spam. If that wasnt the case it would have been pretty good.

Gmail is fantastic, and you're pretty much guaranteed it'll always work. My main personal email is still my old mac.com email, which I'll be keeping forever, but I use one of a couple gmails for professional uses.

I've had domain hosting many times before, and still own a domain name, but I've found that the email service is usually unreliable, and usually depends on your ISP's outgoing mail server - a HORRIBLY outdated system that only compounds the unreliability. I can count on Google - even when my mac.com goes out, I've still got gmail, and it always works with every device I have had. Always, Perfectly. Never a hiccup. Can't say the same for any single other email I've had, yahoo, hotmail, mac, and numerous domain hosted ones.

...and follow the previously posted instructions to opt out of info gathering.
