Well, when we went to France, we went to wineries mostly in Burgundy, but drank quite a bit of Cotes du Rhone at dinner when we were in Nice and Avignon. I think it is the hidden gem of French wine.
Many times, I bought Cotes du Rhone in the States - but it is just doesn't seem to be the same wine. I may be wrong, though - I am by no means a wine guy. My wife used to love reds - but we've agreed that we've never, ever, had a headache after splitting a bottle or two in France, and both of us would have it state-side. I gave up, and decided that I'll leave wine drinking to Europe, and stick to 80-proof stuff here.

Slappy - whatever's sold in the States under French labels _is_ French wine - but they may be adding more sulphites or something for export.

Peter, I don't get headaches from red wine after splitting a bottle. The headaches come on after splitting 3 bottles. :)

If you like the Cotes du Rhone style wines, WA is starting to make some really good French style blends. This wine from Delille is one of the best wines I've had from WA. It is a wonderfully complex wine, which isn't usual for a wine from WA. It is a grenache / mourvedre / syrah blend like they use for Cotes du Rhone.

Sorry, misread the post(after a few drinks). I was thinking of American wines using the Rhone name.

I was misled a few times with some French-sounding names.

Mike - thanks for the link, I'll check them out. Here's a vineyard for you in return.

Maybe because you are, and I mean this in all the right ways, Nasty?
Your husband can either confirm or deny....
