Well, when we went to France, we went to wineries mostly in Burgundy, but drank quite a bit of Cotes du Rhone at dinner when we were in Nice and Avignon. I think it is the hidden gem of French wine.
Many times, I bought Cotes du Rhone in the States - but it is just doesn't seem to be the same wine. I may be wrong, though - I am by no means a wine guy. My wife used to love reds - but we've agreed that we've never, ever, had a headache after splitting a bottle or two in France, and both of us would have it state-side. I gave up, and decided that I'll leave wine drinking to Europe, and stick to 80-proof stuff here.
Slappy - whatever's sold in the States under French labels _is_ French wine - but they may be adding more sulphites or something for export.
