Don't get me wrong - I love my dog and she is a family member but "People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)" really puts a ferret in my underwear. They are always hounding my Alma mater - the great institution - The University of South Carolina - that's right, the
GAMECOCKS.
Anyway, PETA is always telling us we have to change the mascot. Are we hurting the chickens' feelings? Is Tyson is a major sponsor and killing animals in our name? While we tailgate, do we have cock-fights? Does the university officially promote cockfighting? Is David Hasselhoff a good actor anywhere besides Germany? Does poultry everywhere gain something if we change the mascot to tigers? Does the existence of our mascot as a violent chicken do harm to any other chickens?
The answer to all of the above questions is "NO."
The term "Gamecock" is actually a historical reference to a famous South Carolinian, Thomas Sumter a heroe of the American Revolution:

So, in actuality, PETA is truly protesting our great country when they complain about the Gamecocks. PETA is simply unAmerican.
