I may be a Bush Supporter......but Damn I can't stand Hannity or Limbaugh or any other of those windbags. Sometime I think about emailing them the STFU picture :D

amen! I could care less if you're supporting one party/candidate over the other...it's the 'brainless sheep' that scare the shit out of me. If it weren't for the whole oligarchy thing, I'd support a test to weed out the twits too stooopid to vote. ;)

"Let them eat low-carb cake!" she screamed from the balcony...

Karen, I hope you realize from the tone of my posts that I'm sincerely not trying to be antagonistic. I never get to hear the other side -- everybody I run with seem to share similar politcal views (I wonder if that's coincidence or not). Seriously, other than a random trial attorney or two who have their own interests at heart, I don't know one person who supports Kerry, so I don't get a chance hear dissent very often. And I don't think it's healthy to be without dissent.

Unfortunately, though you said you've been very clear, I still don't know what you are saying. You're saying that we should take logical, effiective steps but that Iraq was not it?

I personally don't know how you or I could prove that it is or isn't the right step. I have some issues with the execution of the plan, and I might be gullible, but I agree with the concept. I like the idea of a president willing to take drastic measures to ensure our safety. Especially when his politcal viability is at risk and he does it anyway because he believes it's the right thing to do.

When Ronald Reagan was president, people were all over him too, particularly about defense spending. But he knew that the Soviet Union's economy could not keep pace with ours while engaged in an arms race. And despite the media, stand up comics, MTV, talk show hosts and others constantly bashing him and portraying him as an old, senile lunatic, he won his second term with a landslide victory and the Soviet Union collapsed and the cold war ended. The world changed significantly.

Remind you of anything :D ?

Just kidding, really. I don't think that this election will be a landslide either way. But people are bashing bush really hard, and it reminds me of that.

Last post about this, I promise.

Matt, I really can't make myself any more clear. Take things in a logical order, get the job done, move on to the next logical, EFFECTIVE step.

As for democracy making things "better" in other countries, that's an interesting topic. What if the population votes in a duly-elected Taliban-type government? Is that going to be O.K. with us? I'm all for democracy, but if we help set up democracies, assuming these countries want it, when do we finally butt out? Hell, we have our own election problems, we are dancing on thin ice on the fairness issue.

KJ

By your logic, should we first focus on poverty, drugs, education, social security, or healthcare in this country. We obviously can't focus on all at once, so we better do it one at a time. Screw the homeless, it's social security month in the USA. Screw the children, it's healthcare month. Etc.

If another country elects a Taliban-type government, then the important question is not how they govern themselves, the important question is:

How will this affect the United States of America?

If it will potentially cause us harm, then throw it out with the bathwater. Does that sound ethnocentric? Does that sound callous? Does that sound like I'm putting myself & my safety ahead of another country? If it sounds like all of the above, it's because it is. The time for holding hands and singing peace songs with flowers in your hair has passed, Karen. I don't know about you, but shit like this scares the hell out of me:

"The CIA and FBI late Wednesday authenticated a disturbing new al Qaeda videotape which warns the next terror attack will dwarf 9/11.

"The streets will run with blood," and "America will mourn in silence" because they will be unable to count the number of the dead, a man claims on the video.

Further claims on the video: America has brought this on itself for electing George Bush who has made war on Islam by destroying the Taliban and making war on Al Qaeda
."

The last paragraph would make me laugh if the topic was not so deadly serious. Here's a little story for you all: My neighbor recently moved out of his house and put it up for rent. Bummer, right? Who wants renters next door? So 3 college kids (20-22) move in. Of course they party their asses off. So what do I do about it? I can either kick and scream and then watch them be even louder than before, just to piss me off, or I can yank the problem out by it's roots. I chose to secure a position on the HOA's Board of Directors and nip the problem in the bud. Problem solved, goal achieved, no bullshit factor to deal with. How does that relate to current events? Al Qaeda are now saying that America has brought this (more terror) on itself because Bush is killing them. So should we appease or kill? I vote for kill, every goddamn time. Bush orders to kill, every time. Kerry would vote for Global Approval Douche Test, every time. Fuck that asswipe Kerry.

And from that same video:

"What took place on September 11 was but the opening salvo of the global war on America and that our Lord willing, the magnitude and ferocity of what is coming your way will make you forget all about September 11," the man, whose face is covered by a headdress, warns in the video. "After decades of American tyranny, now it's your turn to die."

Mmmmm ..... maybe from the terrorist standpoint it's not about President Bush at all. Maybe it's 21st century Western culture vs. 7th century Muslim culture. (Read previous post on "The River War") You know, they don't really care about you and how you feel - the 20th century 60's generation flower child meets the 7th century fanatic. Reviewing the video it seems they have a problem with your values. Imagine that.

I think it's rather ironic that in it's efforts to bring democracy to Iraq, the Bush administration change the label to "terrorist organization" of a long standing pro-democracy group in China, that we'd been telling to lay off of, when China said they were planning on abstaining from the vote to invade Iraq.

To be perfectly honest, I have always abhored the sentiment that we should "blow the hell out of them". However, after having the fanatic, murdering, ignorant, mutant attitude thrust into my face every day since 9/11, I'm beginning to change my tune. I wish I could afford to just bury my head in the sand and keep crap like this out of sight, out of mind like some other people....

I used to view all these terrorists like flies. They used to stay in the crappy parts of the world where flies belong, but occasionally they would annoy me and they leave specks of fly shit where I could see them. Now they're like flies that have mutated and grown lethal stingers. Time to just stamp them out once and for all.

Matt, I didn't take your questions as antagonistic at all. I wouldn't have troubled myself to reply to you had I felt that way. I expect you are reading the similar threads on this forum, and frankly, I don't know how else to make my POV more clear. I think the approach to the war on terrorism has lost focus. Seemed to me to start off alright, and then we took a left turn. The Taliban is exerting itself again, Bin Laden walks the Earth and the supposed 75% of Al Qeada leaders extinguished by us have been replaced and ever-more recruits come online everyday. We captured Saddam and it seems to have made little difference. No "smiles and flowers" upon the liberation of the Iraqi people. Watch the escallating violence on the evening news each night and tell me if your gut says we're doing better or worse.

We all have to make up our own minds, and it's unlikely we'll ever change one other's. Like I've said before on Discoweb, just because we disagree doesn't mean we need to get disagreeable with one another.

I think its just down right hillarious how a certain group will try to come out on top regardless. Its a little something like this. If our Government sends more bodies into that War that group will bitch and whine saying that we are sending too many bodies. If they dont send more bodies and the whole thing takes longer that same group will bitch and whine saying that its taking too long and that we are outgunned. And if you call them on it they ignore you and come up with some other mind numbing topic from the daily news or simply say "What?" like you have spoken some jibberish to them... That same group doesnt want to know about any facts Eric , that just clouds the issue and takes away thier power to drift all over the map..

So true, so true.... The link is still around here some where for people to go look at.. I know no one will though. Too much work for them.. They want the handout plus, it's info that they don't want to read..

I think we should end the war this month. Just kill whole towns at a time. Pull our people out, shoot anything that tries to leave the town, and bomb anything that moves till there is nothing but a bunch of smoking rags on a glass pile left. They don't care about their own people so why should we.

Just like the tee shirt "Kill them all and let god sort them out!" But I guess in this case it would be Allah doing the sorting ( or however you spell it ). But that's just my opinion.. I'm sure that most around here are too caring about others to agree with that... You know cause human life is so precious and all that crap. Yet, for them abortion is an acceptable from of birth control.. Shit, why take the pill or use some common sense when you can scrape it out right guys..

that ought to ruffle some feathers.. :)

And now on a different subject - taxes.

Kerry Tax Hypocracy
The Washington Times ^ | October 27, 2004 | By Richard W. Rahn
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1261317/posts

Sen. John Kerry keeps telling us that "the rich" need to pay more in taxes. The senator and his wife are among the 400 richest Americans. He says that he has "a plan to tax the rich."

Under the senator's tax plan, what percentage of the Kerrys' income do you think they would pay the IRS? (a) 50 percent, (b) 40 percent, (c) 30 percent, (d)15 percent.

The correct answer is (d) 15 percent. According to an analysis by the Argus Group, a well respected tax law and economics firm, the Kerrys' average tax rate would only increase by 1.8 percentage points to 15.2 percent under the senator's plan, while many small business people would see their average rate rise by 4.0 percentage points, resulting in effective rates as high as 35 to 40 percent, including certain deduction phase-outs.

Last year, Mr. Kerry and his wife paid only 13.4 percent of their declared $5.5 million income in federal taxes.

President and Mrs. Bush, whose income was only 15 percent of the Kerrys', paid a tax rate more than twice as high, 27.7 percent. Despite all of the senator's bombast about the rich paying more, under his plan he and Mrs. Kerry would still pay a lower average rate than most middle-income Americans.

Keep in mind that Kerry has proposed raising taxes on small business which is responsible for 55% of jobs, but not his household income of $5.5 million. I say household because I doubt this guy has worked a day in his life.

Mark , but you dont understand...
"Columbia, Missouri, with its interior continental location, experiences moderately cold winters and warm summers that are often humid. There are usually a few days of temperatures below zero during the winter months, but there have been several winters when the temperature did not get this cold. Periods of cold weather are usually interrupted by periods of at least a few mild days. It is not uncommon to find some days with temperatures in the 60s in the midst of the winter months. Some snow falls each winter, but it is very unlikely that a snow cover will persist for more than three weeks. Most of the time when snow does fall, it stays on the ground for less than a week. March is the month in which substantial amounts of snowfall are most likely. Temperatures of l00 degrees or more occur in most summers, but there have been several summers when temperatures failed to reach this high. The late spring and early summer months produce more frequent and larger amounts of rain than the other months of the year. Thus, in addition to being warm, these months are often quite humid. By late summer smaller amounts of rain fall and rains occur less frequently, so by midBAugust, the moisture in the top 2 feet of soil is often depleted. The average occurrence of the last temperature as cold as 32 degrees in spring is early April, and the first 32 degree temperature in the fall occurs in late October"

And if we got that dumb ass Bush out of office I am not quite sure what affect it would have on the above statement. But if you give me a moment I can come up with something ... :D
