I'm lookin' at new rubber for the D1. I have tried Truxus, LTB's and neither seemed to balance well. I could care less about road noise and I want an aggressive tire but I do want it to balance and not rattle my teeth out. What tires have ya'll had good luck with?

255/85-16 BFG mud terrain KM2.
Balanced well enough tthat the tire guy commented on it, noise level is lower than I expected. A little rough ride at low speed, otherwise they have bee good so far. 5k miles on them.

235/85/16 bfg km2 Ran mine a few weeks before balancing. Very little vibe before, none after! Good wear so far. They do pick up some big rocks sometimes!

My tsl ltb's balanced OK. They just have a lot of weights on one side. I've been putting 500 miles on them a week for the past year and they are still pretty well balanced. I have learned to pay closer attention to tire pressure than in the past.

About to slap on another pair of BFG's T/A KO's. Last set lasted me 60K miles, although not as agressive looking as most MT's. But a great tire for me as I use my truck daily for freeways, and some weekend warrior off road use.

Where the hell have you been Perry? Thought you fell off the map. Anyway like you I've tried all those you metioned et al including one of your old Trexus. I'm running the KM2s now and I am very impressed so far. They balance nice. One of mine doesn't even have a weight on it:eek: and it's balanced.

Cheers,

Mike

Procomp xterrains...they are loud but are excellent offroad, good amount of agressive side tread and really sticky. They dont last long on the street if you dont take good care of your alignment and tire pressure. Took a bit to balance but overall not that bad. I love them thus far!

Im running 44" TSLs on the Disco but I dont think you'd like them on the street haha. I run 36" Swampers on my RRC almost daily and I think they are fine. They have been balamced on steel wheels and I dont get any weird shakes, just some vibes on deceleration and a whole lot of noise.

I ran both Truxus and BFG MTs on my Grand Cherokee before I made it a buggy and I thought both were great on the street, I really liked those Truxus. Im surprised you had a hard time balancing them.

If you can find a dealer (I sure as hell can't), Maxxis makes their Creepy Crawler in a 255/85 now. Terrible life on pavement, but with LTB's I'm sure you're used to it. Offroad performance is awesome.

If you want something more pavement friendly, I've had nothing but awesome experiences with BFG M/T's, both the KM1's and KM2's, in 285/75, 255/85, and 315/70. They balance like a car tire, wear slow as hell, and aren't too shabby in the dirt either.

235/85-16 Dunlop Mud Rovers.

Noisy but cheap and work well around here.

You can say that again. I have them on my RRC and they have worn fine, but noisy as hell. KM2s on the Hilux are far quieter.

Years ago, I dropped a small fortune on BFG A/Ts for one of my old Chevy 4X4s. I was amazed-not knowing any better... I went through many sets and when I got my Rover, I did so as well until my truck became less of a DD. I bought a set of Cooper mud tires and thought I'd died and gone to Heaven!!! I wore them out WAY too soon and when tire buying time came around again, I was amazed to find the Dunlop Mud Rovers for $80/ea mounted!!!

I'll deal with the noise in exchange for the performance advantage off-road and in snow.

If you are wanting something purley for offroad, then its hard to steer away from the swampers, but I haven't ever gotten mine balanced either.... Anyone running the pitbull rockers, just curious what a 13.5 would do on a rover? I had a set of Maxxis Buckshots and they didn't wear as well as I had thought, but they are dirt cheap, about the same as the dunlops. Its also hard to not want KM2s if they weren't so damn expensive. I know MT are always considered to be jeep'ish, but I always liked the look of the baja claws, don't really know a whole lot about them though...

I like the swampers and just haul them with me or throw them on before going offroad, cooper ST's on the 18's for DD. Its just nice to be able to always find a set of used swampers on Craigslist, but if I do go swampers for the next set it will probably be a set of SSR's if I can find a good deal on some.
