I started with a 2" lift (OME springs and shocks) 2nd, I bought new tires (235/85/16)3rd
I've trimmed the front bumper. Now I'm saving up for the winch and bumper. When
I have that, I'll save for the sliders. When I have the sliders, next will TT's. You will
want it all sooner or later. Just do it in the order of how you want to use your Disco and
what is the easiest to save for. I have found that once you get started, you'll want
to save more for the rest of the items. :D

can someone tell me why sliders are so expensive for discos??? I mean you can get a fantastic set, similar to the dreadnaught type ive seen for the disco, for 425 to fit any toyota...

think about a heavy duty front steering rod and new tie rod ends. steering stablizer relocation kit. and heavy duty rear trac bar, the kind that bends up and out of the way! check rockware out or roversnorth to give you an idea; if you dont know what i mean!

RedneckRover,

I'd say just for the sheer fact that there just aren't as many Disco's out there so they're not mass produced by anyone really. The ones that you can get are really well built though. I love the ones I got from Dave Lucas at slickrock fabrication.

I'd get diff guards if you don't already have them and make sure you have proper recovery points front and rear. If you just bought your ATs then I'd wait on the lift and look into protecting the underside, like was mentioned earlier.

Mine were custom made for $450 by Outback Offroad in Chattanooga, TN, and they're awesome; he did fantastic work.

Rovertym's are $550. These prices are comparable to the $425 you listed, so what are comparing them to? The Dreadnoughts? There are plenty of other quality rock sliders available for much cheaper. Besides, EE doesn't ship the Dreadnoughts; seeing that you are in Maine, and EE is in Cali, that probably isn't an option for you.

Good call, thanks for the info!

Adam do you have any pics of the sliders? I live in Cleveland, TN and was thinking about getting Outback Offroad to do some work for me as well.

$800 bucks Hmmm

I have a couple of ideas for you. The first is a speculative mutual fund banking on the oil reserves in Russia, I think last year's return was like 74%.

As for the Disco I have a limited budget and can only do one thing at a time (like most I'd suppose). I started with recovery gear, straps, D ring and a Jate ring, I don't want to be "that guy" who eveyone has to wait for and doesn't bring his own stuff.

So I am going to start from the ground up, I have already gotten diff guards and next will be sliders. I like the way my disco looks and I want to keep it looking nice (this may not be an issue for eveyone).
Then I will go:
Lift (2" OME)
Tires
bumpers (RTE)
Rear locker

After that it will be pretty much what I can afford but on the wish list I have a rack, lights, Power tank, winch...

I know there will always be something

I have just started to build mine in the last few months. I went with a front diff guard first, and then an ARB front bumper. I figured it was best to protect the important stuff that would get hit. I did a lift and tires after that.

Brian, sorry I don't have any pics. There are some pics of my truck on the 'net, but none of them highlight the sliders. And seeing how I have no digital camera, I can't snap any for you right now. But some of the main design features are as follows: 3/4 inch steel; they are curved to match the natural curvature of the door bottoms; they are a one-piece design that has channels that box in the sill; they are press fit; they mount through the sill mounts with about 10 bolts per side.

They are finished in what he called a "Hammer" coating; smooth like powdercoating but with a grit for durability. I have banged these things all over rocks in TN, and they still don't have a scratch. I have also been completely suspended on the rocks (all tires off the ground), balancing on nothing but the sliders, they haven't flexed at all. ZERO. Not at the time they were under such pressure, nor after I had come off the rocks to inspect any warping. I'm sold.

And these things were only $450. Best bang for my buck I've ever spent on my truck. If I were you, I would call Travis down at OO and talk to him. He will make whatever you want to whatever your standards are, and he will keep you updated on every phase of the project. In my case, I had to leave my truck down there during the process so that he could make sure they were a perfect fit, and he would email me close-up shots of his work and ask if that was what I wanted. If I said yes, he would move on. If I said no, he would scrap that effort and start from scratch. Perfect guy to do business with. I asked him to make me something that looked perfectly stock, but with out-of-this-world performance, and he exceeded my expectations by eschelons.

And on a side note, if you want to see some pics of some work he did on another truck, search on here, on www.tnrovers.com, and on the 'net for pics of a truck named Judge Dredd. It's an '04 Rangie for which he built sliders, a heavy-duty front bumper, a heavy-duty rear bumper, and I think maybe a roof rack. An absolutely jaw-dropping truck. It's bumpers look better than anything I have seen from any other manufacturer, PERIOD. Owner's name is Dave McCoy; he's a member of TNRovers.

In summary, call OO.

Diff guards is a great way to start

then I would look for the rack if you really need one.

I use mine all the time and pile it to the sky with crap, it adds so much utility to the truck I cant even think of being without it.

but the best upgrade is still the truckers armrest...bar-none :D

Adam, you think he would help me in fitting dynatrac axles to my disco or is he just more of a fabricator?

I have to agree with Musky about the truckers friend... I have it's cheap cousin the Road Rest that I use for long trips.. At 20 bucks it's worth it.. That door can really do a number on your elbow after a few hours of driving.

Brian, I wouldn't see any reason for him not to. He and Joey do lot sof custom work to LR's and Jeeps alike, so I am sure he would be willing to help.

FWIW,

I would go with any combination of the following: a Powertank to support airing down and air operated power tools, good GPS device, diff guards, steering guards and sill protectors.

I have a genuine roof rack for my Disco I - not too useful. Found the Powertank to be quite helpful - along with my GPS
