What to do now? stripped rotor screw.

I stripped my rotor screw. I drilled it and it still won't come out. I even tried using a screw extractor and that snapped. I have been using a manual impact driver on the other rotors but it isn't working at all. Should I just put everything back together and take it to the shop? I really wanted to do this on my own.

Thanks.

Use a left-hand drill bit and it might unscrew.

I was almost 100% for having to drill them out, then, I bought a pozi-drive bit and I'm 100% successful now. Yesterday, it even worked on one that was really, really boogered up.

FWIW-you really don't need to replace the screw, the wheel will retain it just fine. If you do remove the screw, it's 8X1.25, flathead. I found a bunch of them that use an allen wrench. Be careful, I still have a piece of tap in my chest from a P38 brake job. Bled like a stuck pig!

I have the four screws. And I went to acehardware, homedepot, sears, harbor freight, and none of them had the pozidrive. Maybe pepboys might have it, that is the only place I haven't checked. I'll keep trying. After this weekend, I'm going to order the pozidrive.

just drill the head off and be done with it. there will be enough of the screw left to use a pair of vice grips to remove what's left, or grind it down and don't worry about replacing it...nothing like turning a mole hill into a mountain

You probably won't find a pozi-drive socket anywhere, but if you buy a bit driver set most of them have pozi-drive.

snap on has them. If you know a mechanic that has an account with them just have them pick one up for you when the snap on truck comes by. That is what I did.

I came across a truck today that someone striped the head off. I was replacing the rotors .... so I toke my cutoff wheel and put a notch in the head of the bolt.... in turn I was able to use a flat head tip on a impact driver to remove the damaged bolt.

Considering he is in Florida, that might be a little tough:cool:

I thought the same thing, that's a lot of rust for Florida. Small chisel and hammer is your friend. Spray penetrating oil and let it soak over night. If you can manage the truck being down another day, spray the second day and let it soak over night again. Second spray may not be needed. Use the chisel and hammer to work the screw loose. The blows from the chisel/hammer will help break the bond between the screw and rotor.

It can be done.

Boogered up the screw. Drilled it out, started the tap, the tap bound up and snapped. I hit it with a punch to bust the tap up and it busted up, right into my chest.

It didn't bleed much until I tried to get it out and hit a vein/artery.

you cant fix a rover until you bleed.:p my parts guy always hates it when i say, "can you stitch this?"

Just curious, what pad and rotor setup did you go with?

The EBC sport kit from Atlantic British. I was surprised when I saw the rear brake pads, they don't even look like they could stop a Smart car.
