I have read around, but am an admitted noob when it comes to anything close to domestic or non-OHC motors. I have the '03 Disco torn down for head gaskets, head rebuilds, water pump, steering pump, thermostat, and maybe ABS shutter valve. Now that I am in here I am considering doing a cam, gears, and at minimum the lifters.

Now I have done a lot of reading on here, but cannot find any actual part numbers for any of the above. I have heard of using NAPA or Summit for lifters. I am also heard of using Summit for a cam. Now I have a Summit merchant account and they ship to me within a day so I would prefer to use them, if i can. My question is what exact parts do I need for for '03 Disco?

Yeah...

I was just looking through their site. They really seem like the place to go! I have heard mention of $350 for a cam, lifters, gear, and chain...

True?

I spent a little under $500 for everything but the timing gear/chain to do a complete 4.2 rebuild (still in process due to 2 bad blocks!!!) You can search ebay for the timing gears/chain under a Buick 215. I got mine delivered for about $30. I almost forgot, I got the lifters on ebay UK for about $50 delivered. But still under $600 for everything.

$520 shipped for me from d&d for a d1. it was actually a bit cheaper than sourcing stock components elsewhere. dont bother ordering from the site just call mark and he will walk you through it and help you decide what cam is right for you.

cam (crower)
lifters (federal moguel)
gears (cam and crank)
crank seal
chain
timing key
cam position sensor spacer
valley gasket
waterpump gasket (was included in the kit for some reason)
front cover gasket
i think i got valve cover gaskets as well
cam lube

make sure you put the spacer on the cmps. also, make sure there isnt one of those "oiling tabs" that sticks out of the cover as it will drag the gears if you dont grind it down. buy pleanty of "right stuff" for all the other seals and some permatex for the front cover (maybe the valley pan if you choose to). goop up the end seals on the valley reeeel good! my water pump went out right after the install. i am guessing the plug dried out and fell apart while it was off. anyway, may think about replacing that while it is all apart (if it is old). lots of cans of spray parts cleaner for when you get shit and grit in there. be careful with your wiring harness. i had an injector short out from man-handling it and it was a bitch to figure out.

if all goes well, you will only forget or fuck something minor up!

enjoy!
