I was there intervention before last-i.e. the mid/late 90's. I heard from peeps that went post earthquake that it got worse. Hard to believe. May be the poorest country in the world, I haven't looked lately.

If you're going to go, get away from PaP.

Why in the steaming fuck would you want to go to Haiti? Are you "trying to help" the locals or get HIV from some ten-year old girl?

Both my in-laws go twice a year and will be adopting a child soon from Haiti. She said why would anyone go there for fun. And then I got lectured about my friends I hang out with like we're Facebook bros. gotta love the mil.

What is your reason for going? I can get more info if you need it.

Haiti is rough, and as bad as it sounds - yes - it's gotten worse since the earthquake.

One of my friends was down there during the disaster. She was teaching at a school in Port-au-Prince, they run out of pencils so she volunteers to dash to the car to get a few.

She was the only person to make it out of the building alive.

The dirt cookies are out of this world, so definitely try one when you're there.

A couple I know is down there doing volunteer rebuilding stuff for a year. I like going to places where I know people. Jessica gets two weeks off at Christmas because she works for the university. My plan is to spend very little time in PAP and get out to the Mountians and more remote beaches.

I went when I was younger and hated it. I've never understood vacationing in a third world country. Go to Europe.

I've been there. There are parts I would still like to see. I have traveled to very expensive places (like Iceland and Nothern Ireland) and really cheap places (like Baja and Thailand) and had fun in both. If you measure a place by how many channels they have and whether they have a Domino's or not you might as well go to Orlando.

That reminds me of the joke from the early 90's; Whats the worst part of getting AIDS? Have to explain to your parents you're Haitian.

NI is a blast, love it up there-now that's the kind of post-strife environment I can get into.

Fun fact: Iceland has the largest KFC in Europe.
