OK, so I thought I had the cash to buy a new bumper, but I don't.

since my bumper is cracked on the right side, I figure I would just cut off the painted bottom portion where the fog light assembly is. I read somewhere on here that someone did it, and it gives good clearance, without buying a new bumper.

Anyone else done this before, what does it look like? I don't want to look too ghetto, but the broken bottom portion of my bumper already looks stupid, and I want clearance before my trip next week.

Pro's and Cons?

any tips?

thanks

and if anyone can point me to that guide / pics, that would be great also.

you didn't say whether it's D1 or D2 - if D1, you can unbolt the bottom part and toss it away. The bumper caps will then need to be trimmed, which can be done with simply a knife (just do it slowly so not to break off the blade).

When I trimmed the end caps, I used snips and trimmed it a bit long than I wanted. I cam back with a heat gun to soften and then bent it under to make it appear finished.

Here you go. 2k D2. I used a die cutter with a cut off wheel but I've heard of people using Dremel tools with good results.

Chad,
Is your signature (Who's going to baby sit the babysitter?) from a lyric by Jello Biafra's post DK project Lard? If so, that brings back memories of my youth. If not, pay no attention.

Sorry to hijack your thread Jesse.

Joseph,
If you do in fact make some front/rear bumper corners for a DI definately let me know, i'd like to get in on that. I've been wanting to make them for a while but dont have the time or machinery to complete it, and was hoping someone would decide to do it. Drop me an email at rover7592@yahoo.com if you decide to persue it.

Dremel

I used a dremel with the thin cut-off wheel to do mine. Came out nice and clean. Tape it off so you can see what line you want then start cutting. You will be able to figure what speed you need to cut at after a bit so as to get the best cut. The melted remains snapped off easily. Just take your time.

My bumper corners and air dam are painted the same color as the rest of my rover (Altai Silver) and am curious if i pull my air dam off and trim my bumper corners, will the paint on the corners flake off with the cutting or would i need to file it back or anything?

I used the simple "hack saw" blade approach. Used soem masking tape to define the cut line then just sawed on the outside edge. Cleaned up the cut line with some sand paper.

Simi hi-jack. Sorry.

1. How do you remove this part of the bumper? I've looked at it but I just don't see how. Mine rattles like mad and it interferes with the towstrap/jate ring when recovering.

2. What is the name of this type of wheel? I have this kind and would like to get another for my spare.

Thanks,
Michael

that center part comes off by four screws from behind. I had to remove it for the oem a-bar to fit.

downforce... hehehe... that's funny.
