Who Modified DII Y-Pipe for Headers?

I found a thread a few months ago where someone that was rebuilding their DII engine decided to add headers and modified their Y-Pipe.

I can't find the thread and have searched with no luck. I wanted to see how involved it was.

Thanks,

Greg

Someone on here was either rebuilding their 4.6 or swapping out their 4.0 with a 4.6 in their DII and decided to go with the Heddman hedders for it and documented what it took to modify the Y-pipe.

At the time, I said "well, I'm not doing that on my daughter's rig so no need to mark the thread". Now I can't find the damn thing!!!

I have heddman headers on my D2. At first I just took it to a local exhaust place and had them hack the stock y-pipe up enough to make it work (with the cats). When I had to replace my transfer case I just cut all of the old exhaust out. I made a new system form the headers back. I welded a 2.5" v-band to the headers and went back to a 2.5"x3" y-pipe, cutout, and muffler. It wasn't too bad to fab all of it but it was also the first exhaust system I had fabbed.

Hey Greg, my Disco with the headers was vandalized a couple months ago, so I don't have the rig anymore, but I can tell you that they fit pretty easily between the frame and I just had a two-bit welding shop cut off the cats and do the connection. Make sure you put a proper flange connector on it as the ball-n-socket loosens and leaks constantly.

I was a great low-end torque adder, especially combines with the Piper cams.

Am interested in your 3-Links! Any pics you would share?

3-link is al home made. I'll try and get some photos for you. All brackets from 1/4", and oversize 1/4" plate welded to frame and then brackets welded to those. Links are all 2" OD with .500" wall(!). Heavy, but I won't have to worry about them bending.

Upper is on top of diff running alongside driveshaft, hence my need to make fenderwell headers. No room inside rails because of link and shaft. About 8" of separation on axle end and about 4" on frame end.

I'll try and get some shots tomorrow.

I wouldn't mind at all if you got a few slides of the Volvo Portals in there. 3rd member, pinion flange, tubes, and then the $$money shot, of course.
