So today I start to replace my leaking oil pan gasket and replace my rusty oil and trans cooler lines, Michigan tends to do this.
So to access the top oil cooler line I figure I'll go in from the center console.
Trucks getting hot, let's get the windows all down.
I drop the battery back in, stick the terminals on and the bitch STARTS UP!:ack:
Now mind you the oil pan, oil and trans cooler lines are laying on the garage floor and the keys are still in my pocket!
I yank the terminals off, still running.
All I can think of is the wires.
Rip the drivers side off, still running.
I get 3 ripped off the other side before it finally stops!!!:banghead:
So now any oil left in the motor and a couple quarts of trans fluid now leaves a nice coating on my floor.
Didn't hear any knocking before I got it stopped.

So lets get to the tech.
Is there anyway to prime the oil system before I fire her back up?

BTW I've now pulled the front cover as I found this to be leaking pretty bad as well after I got all the other crap off.
Also replacing the the timing chain and gears as it had a ton of slop.

Steve

BTDT, but it was on a P38 with a bum BeCM.

As for priming the oil system, there are a few ways to do this, none easy. The most elegant that I can think of is to use a Hudson style tank sprayer and pump oil in through the oil cooler lines. I use this method to flush oil coolers and it could work just as well to prime the oil galleries.

Good luck, and let's hope this doesn't happen again!

Go buy another one! You'll need it again, or, you can use it for 90 wt for the diffs/t-case.

PT that sounds like a great idea, their cheap enough.
Got a few days anyway as I have to get more parts.
  • timing chain and gears
  • front cover gasket
  • front main seal
  • water pump gasket
  • All new hoses
  • Thermostat
  • new front hub ( found my abs problem ) thought all I was going to do was reset the sensor, became every clear what was wrong when removing the rotor.:ack:
