OK, might have a buyer for my wheels/tires -- so here's a question for you guys -- how the hell do I ship them?

I've tried to get rate quotes online (DHL & Fedex) but that is proving difficult. What's a ballpark cost? (4 GY MTRs on Disco Alloys + 1 spare rim)

Nevertheless, how does one package tires to be "mailed?" What do I need to do with the spare wheel that has no tire?

Your thoughts are much appreciated.

I went down to my local UPS store and shipped them, I protected the rims, but they go out individually, so no pallet or anything like that, they tag each wheel and that's it.......it's not cheap though.

Take them to a UPS store or call UPS and schedule a one time pick up. You can also drop them off at a UPS center. They will print a label and tape it to the tire. If you use the one time pickup there is an additional fee. The ups store is also more expensive than the UPS center. If you ship rims put them in a box to avoid dings. 1-800-pickups is the number.

I fed-exed 5 tires sold on d-web. Since they were used, I bought a roll of clear wrapping material - and wrapped each one individually. Slap the sticker on the wrapping and they are off....

I did a shipping estimate which was pretty close to what it actually cost through the fed-ex website. Find the weight of the tires on the mfg. site and then punch in the dimensions. From what I remember it was about $20 a tire.

i would put the rim in a box, with the tires it's cheaper if you tape two of them together. Just make sure you do a good job so they don't shift and bust the tape. Ups has a 6 dollar fee per package for things that arent boxed but 6 bucks is cheaper than buying a box or IMHO spending an hour fabricating a box. Hope this helps.

thanks

I had a BFG MT UPSed to me, they just stuck a label on it and it arrived.
I shipped 5 tires to Kyle Van Tassel 2 years ago the same way - just took them to UPS and they stuck a label on them. I think they were 70 lbs. each.

HEY KYLE YOU FUCKING PIECE OF TRASH, I'M STILL WAITING FOR THE RACK YOU PROMISED IN EXCHANGE FOR THE TIRES.

Actually, The UPS Store, charges the exact same as UPS counter for shipping, the Stores will charge for packing, the Counters are not suppossed to pack anything. We would ship them by boxing the spare wheel, putting carboard circles front and back of each wheel, and shipping them as 5 individual packages. Loose wheels go two in a box in an 18 inch cube box with cardboard seperators and packaging to take up space. Remember UPS ground covers each package to $100 in loss/damages, so 5 packages are covered to $500.

I just got a set from discount tire direct and they shipped the tires individually with just a label taped to the tire.

I was looking into shipping a set that way and it is damn expensive, can't figure how they still sell the tires like that cheaper than I can get them here. Selling and shipping my takeoff Michelin's is a little cost prohibitive to ship.
