At your mom's
You HAVE to go and at least look at it. Take a creeper and roll around underneath and act like you are genuinely interested. Just LOOK at the thing.
If it was an undercoated military frame, it may be in very good shape. It is calling you. And with the red cross on the side you won't get shot at when things get hot. It's perfect for when the zombies come.

Go check it out and report back.

don't think of it as an ambulance, think of it as your trail-ready RV... Bet there's enough fuel in your truck to leave right now and be there in less than 3 hours...

:D That's actually just what I was thinking (the RV) but it will never pass with the wifey - she's much more hard core than I.... she likes tents.

Too much work to do right now to go look at it - but I wouldn't mind seeing how clean it may or may not be. If it was really solid it may be worth it as I wouldn't mind having a pickup back on it and I imagine someone would buy the "RV" body if it was decent.

Being a Land Rover lover, you need to go just for the historical aspect. This rig may have hauled injured heroes back to base. You owe it to her to check her out. Atleast before some 18 year old puts 22" spinners and a discoball inside. I would have loved a 4wd ambulance in high school. Equipped with beds and everything?

Point of interest - my undercoated military frame was bad, bad, bad. Take a hammer and a screwdriver.

Tis very true. If the undercoating is intact then it can protect very well. However, if it is not, then rot can often creep in underneath it through a nick in the coating and begin rotting. You'll never see it because it can remain well hidden by the undercoating ironically meant to protect the frame. I was one of the lucky ones on my military frame. Hammer away indeed!

I don't know much about TDI's but those Robert Davis conversions are pretty sweet from what I've heard. I would love to have an ambulance body truck! But alas, I am busy enough keeping up my existing Rovers so I will live vicariously through whoever ends up with this one.

I know that Rover...the PO used to live three blocks away, that is, before he got posted to the UK. The Rover didn't make the trip and was sold.

It was in pretty good nick back then, but that was a decade ago.... Even with all that sail area, the Iron Duke engine allowed a reasonable pace on the highway.

Jen's right about the military undercoating - it can either be a blessing, or a curse, depending upon the mood of the squaddie who was tasked with that first application. Sadly, on a Rover there are plenty of places for the rust worm to hide....
