Ran fine for quite some time afterwards. Later on, it began to idle rough...then badly...then, not run at all. When it does "run" it stumbles badly, misses all over, and coughs through the intake (bad timing?). What can I check? Cam position sensor, crank sensor? All the intake areas looks dry and clean? If you give it gas, it dies instantly with a cough. It has not done this in the past. FYI, just did the fuel pump and all is well with it.

Check your airbox for water or evidence there was water, if there was those 'bubbles' on the throttle body intake may have water in them that can cause this.

no timing to check/adjust on a 96....mine does this when the tcase gets too wet due to the VSS not being insulated like it should at 243k miles. once it dries out from heat for 5min its fine though.

Yeah, I realize you can't adjust it. I just figured the two things that have a hand in injection and timing are the cam and crank sensors. I a green on these... the VSS will cause it not to run?

Thanks all...I'll post back soon. Fortunately it is 40 degrees and pouring rain!! SWEEEET!

beats me. I originally thought it was because it was low on fuel and the gas cap was left off. But I fueled it up, cycled the pump and few times and pressurized the tank. I can't find squat. out to get a scanner. I am sure it will show miss fire/etc and not the issue.

nah...the fuel door was closed. I drove for 100 miles or so with it off. Like I said, fuel it back up, capped it and pressurized the system. Just wondering if I threw some thing off. The Disco is finicky at best, so I am digging. Can't get a scanner for a couple of days.

--- anyone in Conroe, Texas with an OBDII reader?

Disconnect the battery overnight.

My Dodge was doing something similar , i disconnected the bat for other reasons

and when reconnected 2 days later she ran like a charm.

Just a thought.
