Yeah, I've known about these for a long while....like you said they are name brand within the wreckers service, but not so much anywhere else....that being said...they ain't exactly cheap either in comparison to what name have been thrown around so far. Look to be good winches though..... worm gears are sloow.

Did you call Britt at Roemer offroad like I suggested? $845.99 for a 12k worm drive winch *brand new* sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

They might be slow, but they run all day w/o overheating, draw minimal amps from the battery, don't overheat when winching out, and are generally bullet proof.

I've winched over 15x in one day w/ this thing and it never missed a beat. We went on a trip where the other two winches in the group had winchline problems, which left my truck the only operating winch to get 7 trucks through a spring sunk ove the axles snowrun. For me, a slow and reliable winch that can run all day is better than a fast and unreliable winch. It all depends on what kind of wheeling you do though. If you are entering a competition or running busy trails then a faster winch is preferable.

Sure this is out of the price range? Summit only hits you for $6 shipping because it is so big and heavy. I chose to go through winchline.com though and start out with synthetic but its pricey.

Naw, didn't call Britt. I'm not in the market just yet. BTW, Not to diss your boy, but you can go straight to the source and get a 12.5k winch with everything for that same price. Link Here It's a decent deal for sure for a stout winch, but I was under the impression that he was looking more at the $400-500 price range based on the names that have been mentioned. I mean hell, gorilla winch has got a 8k 12V for $375 with wireless. 12k will only run ya $599 if 12k is your mug o beer.
FWIW, I would be interested in hearing some real trail reports on these no namers, as it has been said alot of these probably come from the same factory, and get rebadged. Much like alot of other products on the market, sadly.

A few of us made a run this weekend in the Snow along a pretty aggressive trail when its dry. Had to use the Milemarker for the first time and several after that. For the money and performance I was impressed with this wench. No shame in my game ill sport the milemarker on the front of my truck. You could be one of those that sews an alligator on a sport shirt get my drift ?

I wasn't quoting Britt's prices. I was quoting the same link you are and noting that a brand new Pierce is about $500 less than a comparable Ramsey winch that is refurbished (not sure how much a new Ramsey is). Call Britt and you'll get it even cheaper.

You are right though, I'm not talking about a cheap knock-off planetary gear winch here. I'm talking about a solid proven worm drive winch that will get you home over and over again even if you have to winch all day long. It is a cheap solution when compared to comparable name brands and unlike most of the other knock-offs this one is proven in the wrecking industry. This allows you to save a little, but still avoid the junk. It's not my choice, but I would spend a couple hundred extra and get a winch that will last a lifetime.

I have a Milemarker 12K pounder and it looks EXACTLY like the Titan.... I think they all come out of the same factory - including the lower end Warn units.

Any of them will be just fine if set-up and used right (like everyone else said.) I decided to go with the 12V Milemarker as it was half the cost of the 9K top end ones...... figured the cheap 12K would be somewhere near as powerful as a GOOD 9K so at half the cost - why not.

Not the best logic, but hey a $ is a $ and sometimes it comes down to that.

I have a cheapie 6K that has been on my car hauler trailer for many years and is abused beyond thoughts. It has never ever let me down and pulls hard.

The titan winch ( this is my Brand ) is not made in the same facility as the MileMarker.
And yes some multiple brands are made by the same Manufacturer .
My specs for the Titan Winch are a little bit more than the run of the mill value priced Winches on the market nowadays. sealed casings/ thermal overload protection high gear ratio larger motor ( 6.6hp ) and the latest improvement is with the Solenoid.

That's a good point Mike. Are there parts available for the cheapo winches and if so, will there be in 10 years?

C
Good point craig, but if the el-cheapo unit only lives for ten years, then IMHO it's paid for itself, and then some.

Wow old thread. So anyways, I ended up buying one of these 12k Titan winch. i had this thing apart in my hands, and this thing is built pretty tough. made in china or not, it's actually impressive. totally sealed components. The guts are no less in quality then mile marker, tabor, tmax...
so far performance is impressive (tested on D1). pulls hard, fast. Soon to be tested on my DII. anyone know whats the warranty on a mile marker? 1 year? I'm sure it's somwhere on the waranty card in plain engRish.

BTW, it will be mounted to a overbuilt rte-ish winch bumper. ;)

I've got the MileMarker 12k and am in the process of getting new, larger cables for it to reduce any voltage drop. Now I never liked the cheesy, Chinese solenoid and the crappy little box the guts are mounted in, but that solenoid above looks like just what I am looking for. No need to make right angle bends in a tight space close to the terminal lugs with 2 gauge wire....

Went to the Titan site and couldn't find if the solenoid was available as a separate item.

Cheers

I am a liitle lazy when it comes to updating my site I have not even added the New X-jacks to it yet.
The solenoid is available for $75.00 USD to any LR owner.
Cheers.

That's what copper bus bar is for, wire it like the solenoid pack on the Warn 8274. I use 4 100% duty cycle 200 amp solenoids. 400amp capacity in and 400amp capacity out. I know they won't fry.

this unit is a 450amp and one unit will run a Winch.
Can you point me to a spec sheet on it? I might be interested in one if it's 100% duty cycle.
The spec sheet I found online (same solenoid photo) is 200amps and 70% duty cycle.

If a 9000 lb winch was struggling with a Jeep it wasn't wired correctly. Many people think you can just slap on a winch and you're good to go. Most winches I see come with too small electrical cables which causes voltage drop and lowers the winch power while also overheating it. You also need a good battery and good alternator. One of the most overlooked factors in reducing winch capacity is number of layers of cable on the drum. With a 100' cable only run out about 30' your winch capacity is reduced by more than 1/2. That's why, if it works with your environment, a shorter cable is better (usng extensions for those times you need more reach) and/or using a snatch block to get more cable off the drum.
If set up properly, 9000 is plenty for a Discovery in most situations.

That's why I run a short cable. I can't stand spooling out all the way and grabbing a snatch block to gear it off a smaller wrap with a long cable. Now I don't have to bother. That was a real pain in my ass, especially since the darned thing ends up yanking more logs out of ditches than Rovers. That long cable was irritating as hell.

I've got a 9.5Ti, and while it's plenty strong, I just don't really like the design all that much. I can't seem to get a set of 1 guage wires in there comfortably. I'm moving the batteries in the back, but I'm going to have to replace the winch first, to something that can more easily accept a larger guage. It's too tight in there for my taste.

I'm looking at maby going to a different type entirely, but I haven't bothered to look yet.

Cheers,

Kennith
