I put in a new window regulator on the 03 D2 (front pass) and when I hit the auto down button it goes to the bottom and begins jumping gears.

Is there a lower limit switch on the motor that I missed or something?

Anyone have any idea or informaiton on this?

Thanks.

I put one in my drivers front last week.. and I just slapped it in there... the whole system seemed to know when the window was at the bottom/top... I was also worried about that..

are you sure you put the motor assembly on the regulator correctly?

Well, by correctly do you mean does it work? Sure. It goes up and down but when I hit the auto down it did not stop. Maybe I was off by a gear or two? I will try it again tonight, but i was not doing so until I heard some feedback from the board.

I don't want to strip out the gears, but if the motor needed to be a few gears down, it seems like it would skip down to the right setting, huh?

i put one in a d1 before and had those results. cant remember what exactly (something with the install of the motor/gear) it was but a closer look and reassembly fixed it. should be obvious.

when I got my regulator, I screwed around with the gear / motor positioning.. I was worried the motor wouldn't know where the window was.. if it was a preset bottom/top.. etc... but it worked fine first time, all up.. all down....

I was asking if the motor is correctly mounted (tightly) to the regulator frame.. in the correct orientation.... etc... sounds like it is..

I have had the same problem after replacing the motor and regulator assembly recently the auto down would run past the teeth and jam up. After hours of troubleshooting I gave up and put a machine screw and nut in the hole on the regulator to act as a stop. The fix was pretty ghetto but the window stops before bottoming out and jamming up. The only drawback is it stops with about two inches of window still up. I figured good enough, as I was frustrated and ready to just break stuff. If anyone has a surefire way of "calibrating " the reassembly of the regulator I'd like to know so I could fix it right.

I'm bumping this up. Three years ago the front passenger side regulator was replaced. Today, it broke.

It goes down. When I hit the up button, it grinds, thunks and cuts off. Won't move the glass. I pulled the trim loosened the bolts, wiggled the alignment, hit the switch and up she goes, smooth a silk. Down nice and easy, too, but it seems to go 1/2 inch too far. Won't go back up.

The big crescent gear seems to have some shavings on the "down" end. Evidently from the grinding as it tries to catch.

The regulator is removed. The rollers are fine. The welds are not broken, but the motor mount pivot seems loose. Is this because I bought a pos regulator?

:banghead:

I'm putting it back together, rolling it up and unplugging the motor. When I feel like it, I may replace the regulator again.

Is there some stop or alignment I missed? (RAVE says "reverse removal procedure")

Is this one of those time when a genuine part is a better choice?

Thanks.

i have been having problems with the aftermarket regulators. i started using OE to be safe. had to warranty the last 3 aftermarket ones. i wasnt sure if the first two were installed correctly (another tech)so i didnt think about it, but i installed the last one and only got about 5 months out of it. went thru 2 more trying to fix it before i gave up and went OE.

Thanks ratboy - OEM replacement noted.

Ended up sticking a bolt through one of the hole like Brett suggested above. It stops before it jumps the track.

In the last three weeks I've done rear bearings, rear rotors, a stub axle, transmission drain plug broke off in the pan/filter, exhaust manifolds, u-joints, waterproofed the ecu, and a brake light switch. My back hurts, and snow is coming. I'm unplugging the window switch and letting this ride for a while.

Must be in the water. The pass front regulator faile din my D2 last week. I called Will Tillery, and for cheaper than anything on eBay I had a new looking used regulator in hand. I layed the old and new next to each other, lined up the "new arms to match the old arms, then removed and re-installed the motor. Worked like a charm when I put it back togther.

I did find a set of door panel removal tools at Harbor Freight, part number 67021 for about 5 bucks, even had the wedge to hold the window up when you un-bolt it from the regulator.

This week the pass door regulator failed in the Boxster, the "drop down" function isn't going enough. Will be replacing it next. Sigh.

Will is my new hero! Why buy aftermarket, or eBay?

I did the bolt in the lower hole on the regulator as well. It was the only
thing that I could figure would correct the problem and it did. Works
fine now.
