Window Regulator issue

Hey all:

On a 2000 DII: Driver's widow got stuck in down position. We managed to take out the regulator, and found that the motor had "overshot" the extreme down position. It actually tried to carve gear teeth in the STOP (ungeared) part of the half moon gear. The motor's gear is in great shape.

We reset it, and it worked for a while, even stopping correctly, but it has gotten stuck again.

So here is what I am trying to find out:

How does the motor know when to stop turning? It is certainly strong enough so that's not the issue. Do we need a new motor, or just the regulator (by that I mean the bracing, etc.) or both?

Thanks!

the motor stops due to resistance, its like it overloads and trips... i would replace both. regulator and motor. roversnorth has the regulators for 69 bucks(proline) and motors for 99bucks (proline)

motor left hand front Part#:pLH951

regulator left hand front Part#:pLH541

How difficult is it to change the window regulator. I just suffered the same problem, window dropped down into door after the motor ran past the end stop.

Thanks.

It's not that difficult, but it can be frustrating as the glass has to be held at the correct height while the bolts are removed, then the regulator has to be folded up and taken out through gaps that don't look big enough!

Expect to spend two hours first time.

Mine did the same thing, I drilled out the crappy spot weld that holds the 'half moon' gear and the 'stop' and replaced it with a bolt/nut and locktite. This gives a really solid 'stop' point. 2 years later and still going strong. The window 'frame' fits easily through the opening once you do it a 100 times or so:) I use a pry bar to hold the window in the up position while removing, installing.

I did similar thing. Used a piece of all thread and cut off size I needed, and then JB welded it into place thru the gear. Window hits it on the
way down and stops. Has been working well for almost a year now...
