Wiper problems?

2000 disco 2.

My windshield wipers are acting up on me. If i turn them on interval or low they will not work at all. However, if i turn them on high, they will work but when i turn them back off, they do not automatically return to the resting position. They will stop wherever they are when the power is cut. So if they are in the middle of the windshield, they will stop in the middle of the windshield. When this happens, I have to use the single use part of the switch(by pushing the lever towards the floor) and get them to stop where i want them to. I thought it was the wiper switch so i replaced it with no success. One thing i noticed during install of the new switch is that the part the wiper switch mounts to and also the blinker switch mounts to, will rotate around the steering column. If i rotate the whole unit counter clockwise about 3 inches(where my wiper switch is now pointing almost straight up), I will have full use of my wipers. Im really not sure where to go from here. Any ideas?

The problem you describe sounds 100% like a classic "park" switch problem UNTIL !! you get to the interior switch and then you lost me. At that point it actually sounds like a bad ground then anything else. Good luck and let us know what works. We are all in the Disco word together!

Instead of just throwing parts at the problem check out the circuit diagram on the RAVE cd. One basic check is to feel the wiper relay and find out if it's switching or not and start there.

Motor huh? I figured it had something to do with the motor because when i turn the switch I can hear the relay working, just no wipers..However, i got a little confused about it being the motor after being able to rotating the whole switch assy. counter clockwise around the steering column about 3 inches and all functions worked.

I got exactly same problem and heard it's switch relay. So was looking for switch assembly to replace.
Since wiper works (not as proper relay) I don't think it's motor problem...
Is it right?

If it is a relay, why would it happen only when it is cold out?

When it is warm it works flawlessly. I am leaning toward the motor..which is fine..but if I can replace a faulty relay, instead of a motor that cost about the same as a mortgage payment, I would try that...

I have heard most owners have had this problem.

Any update on this issue? My 02' is doing the same thing. Anyone fix this, apart from taking apart the wiper motor and/or replacing it? If it is just a relay, does replacing it work? Thanx

I have a similar wiper symptom (except the 3 inch counter-clockwise movement thing) as the original poster, and thought that I would bump this thread to the top to seek a solution. Any suggestions? Thanks.
