Worst nightmare..

So changing wheel bearings today, I decide to take my stub axle seals out and shear one of the bolts. I tried to use a bolt extractor and that ended up snapping in half... SO I began to drill it out... Here is where I am at... I am thinking maybe I can heli coil it?

I am so pissed off right now I cant even think straight. Advice would be great.

Thanks, thats what I needed. I gave up for tonight mostly because drilling that extractor out was a bitch.

or if you wanna be an el cheapo - the dead hole is at 12..... you CAN use right stuff and the other 5 bolts will do the job....

Yea I was thinking that too. Or just drill the hole all the way through and use a nut on the outside since it clears the caliper...

I don't think I will ever use an extractor again. They seem to always break and make the job way harder.

Yea I should have went with a bigger one I think it was right in between..

Whats everybodys choice on drill bits? Titanium? carbide?

Carbide bits and I also would helicoil the hole. I have a parts truck I would sell.

Left hand drill bits, drill it undersize and tap to correct size.

I have never seen a left hand drill bit pull anything out of any hole ever in my life.

Well, maybe I'm just better at it than you are

I'm damned near 100% for broken bolt removal since I started using left-hand bits. I do have a hub and an exhaust manifold that are giving me fits, but otherwise, I've had good luck lately.

Heli coil didn't work out so I'm gonna have one bolt bigger that the others. As soon as I can finish drilling the hole thru.. PT you should do a video on bolt extraction next
