My d2 is getting fixed at the dealer so they gave me a rental. The rental is a 2009 dodge journey. It is the biggest pile of shit I have driven in a long while! I no longer wonder why Chrysler is bankrupt. The cars groans though the vents, ticks like a bomb counting down, etc...eck! Can not wait to get my disco back!!

I have to rent a lot of cars. Chrysler products seem to rarely be offered in this area.
The only stipulation I have is no GM products. They plain suck. All of them.

Talk about Chrysler. My buddy had a Town & Country from Enterprise for a rental in CA, with 400 miles. The vehicle caught on fire in the parking lot due to a short. Funny thing is that he couldnt get in to get his stuff, key or fob. Luckily nobody was inside.

I drove a new Chevy malibu back before Christmas and it was quite nice, to my surprise. Worst rental I've ever had was a Saturn with manual windows and door locks. Was a piece of junk but luckily I only had to drive it 3 hours one way.

Three worst rentals I have been forced to drive:

1. Hummer H3
2. Toyota Yaris
3. Aztek

2008 Chevy Cobalt with maybe 15k miles on it.. that was the biggest pile of waste I've ever driven. We got that while my wifes' truck was at the body shop from an accident.. Car wouldn't go into park, or back out of park without some serious hammering on the shifter. The rear-end or wheel bearings back there were shot, it was LOUD as heck at any speed over about 25mph. I took it back to Enterprise and told them I needed a different vehicle that they would feel safe putting their wife and kids into.. ended up with a Mazda suv of some sort, CX7 maybe? It was lots nicer.

I had a GM product called something like HTC (...maybe??). It was the GM version of the PT Cruiser. WORST god damned car I ever drove. But it had a pretty good stereo.

I also had a Malibu and was also pretty impressed. Not as good as my 328i but I shouldn't have to mention that...

Renting quite frequently from both Enterprise and Hertz for work, I personally prefer Enterprise because they seem to have a better selection of vehicles in the areas I travel to and are a lot easier to talk to about freeish upgrades.

I think you are talking about the Chevy HHS...they tried to give us one of those one time with the side skirts hanging off and a half flat tire...I said "no way jose" and they ended up giving us a Chrysler Sebring...one of the newer ones, it was a nice little car. The best car I ever had for a rental was a Pontiac Gran Prix. That bitch was fast.

I rented an '09 Saturn Aura from Hertz all last week, and put about 600 miles on it. I had never been in a Saturn before, it was optioned out and I thought it was a pretty good ride. Comfortable, handled well, some power (not alot) That said I'm not saying I would buy one over a comparable Asian or Euro equivalent, but no complaints other than I had to lower the seat to avoid looking at the very top of the windshield.

Stealing from P.J. O'Rourke: "Nothing handles quite like a rental car"

I agree about that Chevy HHS thing. That was a miserable POS to drive.

Interestiing note: Rental car choices are really lean right now as most have pulled their Toyotas.

Nicest rental I've had in years was a fully loaded Buick Enclave.

Not fast (it's a people hauler) and probably close to a minivan in size/layout but it was comfortable, quiet, relatively quick and a pleasure to drive. Would love to have one for a long drive!

I got stranded in providence last year and ended up in some saturn suv. It felt plastic and cheap and had no guts. On the plus side it did much better than expected in my rally car style driving on the gravel back roads of CT.
