Looking for a full suspension mountain bike for XC riding... not one of the all-mountain or downhill bombers. I need something that climbs well and has a good set of components.

Santa Cruz
Kona
Specialized
Trek
Rocky Mountain
etc.

PM me if you have a mountain bike you're trying to get rid of...

Thanks,

Hunter

I have two mavericks, they arent cheap, but I am trying to liquidate some stuff to buy a rock...if you are interested in something longer term, large sized, and not cheap, let me know. I am a fan of real four bar, monolins and FSRs; no so much VPP; I like the old rocky mountain better: our household has
2 Intense products
2 Maverick bikes
2 rockys
2 cdales(street)
We have sold all our kona, trek and specialized we once owned, fwiw, and I think SC is fine if you like VPP

damn didnt take my first post.

anyhow, buy a hardtail bike with sweet components, you wont regret it. Ive been through 2 full suspension bikes and after awhile I was lusting for something light and efficient. Ti frame hardtail with SRAM XO and king wheelset, climbs like a goat.

I just started riding more road, have a nice steel frame for that, keep it simple :)

gmhooker: I'm 5'8" so no large frames for me. 17" - 18".

I'm looking at a hard tail right now on CL in Anchorage. It's an old Trek 8700 carbon for $225.00.

Anybody know anything about these?

Here is the link.

Unless you are collecting I wouldn't buy an older bike like that. You would prob have to put more into it than its worth - chainrings, chain, cassette most likely mandatory additions. That bike may also be 8 speed and 8 speed is quickly vanishing except for on hybrids and other comfort bikes.

If you plan on riding a lot or are generally hard on things I would get a bike with at least x7/slx or x9/xt. Currently I think Giant bikes are the best deal out there for new bikes.

Look for a hardtail then. specialized stumpjumper, or the like. I would suggest between 1000 and 1500 for used and you'll get a nice ride. I realize that might not be doable but you'll be shocked what that difference makes.

This looks like a nice deal but a bit over your budget.... Ellsworth Truth It's local to me here in Portland Maine. Shipping probably would not be too bad and I would be willing to check it out for you.

I have an Ellsworth Sub22, hardtail which unfortunately they do not make anymore. Love this bike. Their craftsmanship is awesome.

I have a 2006 GIANT Trance 4 I might think about selling. I added a SIC stem and handlebar, but other than that it's all stock. Oh, I added Avid disc brakes too, not sure what model brakes but they're not the Juicy 7's....

I paid ~$1,400 for it. If you're interested let me know what you're willing to pay.

thats a large or 19.5 in mtb frame I would bet.

Hunter, if you are 5'8" you need at very most an 18" or your back will be killing you.

Yeah, I've learned that the hard way. 17" would be ideal, but most frames come in a 16" (small) and then 18" (medium). So, that's what I'm looking for...
