I get the M & S flashing once in a while also - Usually just have to restart and it goes away - but...

What is the XYZ switch and how much work is it to replace? I am pulling the Engine soon anyway.

The flashing M&S lights are most commonly caused by a weak battery or a poor connection at the battery. The XZY switch is an electrical switch on the side of the transmission that signals what gear is selected in the transmission (PRND321). Its three bolts IIRC , but can sometimes be tricky to adjust. Usually they require no adjustment.

My M&S flashed for 3 or 4 days after starting mine up for the first time in months. Once the battery got stronger it stopped completely and hasn't come back

Does it store a fault when that happens ? Remember what one if so ? I was unaware .

I can't recall if it always does, but my guess would be yes since the lights are flashing. Its probably a gear selector fault. Even when the battery causes this, doesn't it set a low voltage fault?

I went through the same thing with the MS flashing and then the D2 would not start at all. Turns out it was the NEG cable being loose, even though the bolt was tight. Crimped the fitting and tightened it down. Cranked on the first try. Rover UP!!!
