Im a fan of the chopped top look; think first gen Toyo Forerunner with top removed. I would have suggeseted that if I'd gotten in here earlier, but you'd already popped of the whole rear on this thing by the time I stumbled in. With that single cab thing you're at with now, wonder if you could fab a low side looking pickup style bed to it?

Im seeing early, single cab Ford Bronco emerging here.

Regardless, looking forward to whatever evolves here. good luck, mv

They dont sell retail. I knew I was in trouble when he asked for my company name
Seems that should be easy to work around. Maybe one of the fabulous vendors would let you place the order under their name and have it delivered to you? ;)

Or, call them back, and ask them who they would recommend locally. I would think they would be glad to give you the names some of the places they supply to.

This is a fun looking project.... Makes me want to hack the top off my beater D1. Maybe cut it all off even with the window belt line do it leaves the tail lights and all. It would have a early model Yota 4 runner look - not that that is really a *good thing - ha ha! Guess I'd need to smooth the rear doors into the body.

This truck is very solid but the headliner is shot, motor has a tick/knock, the trans feels "OK".... Maybe I should just hack it!

Given that I have connections in the marine industry I could get a nice canvas top made cheap. :)

I thought about just hacking the top off but then I decided eh it rains every other day or sometimes weeks straight, it's cold as hell 50% of the time.. And I wanted something stupid fun and this thing is pretty that. it's rusty so I decided to hell with dealing with more than half of this rust I'll just chop it off.. haha

So today I finished cutting the body including the bumper so Ed would shut up, painted the bumpe and the wheels, worked on the brakes for a while, then took measurements so I can make the 1x1 supports to make the cab one solid piece again. Here's a pic of the truck after the chop was finished.

Here's a picture of the truck next to the 96'

Here's the measurement sketch I made up.. Probably overkill but I want it to be as solid as possible.

How I have the brake hoses set up for now. I moved the bracket from the body to the frame. I may need to move it up though. I also need to get a T fitting instead of the individual connectors and move it more towards the diff. This was just a rough mock up to try to get the brakes going again but I need to get some more fittings anyway.

Can anybody tell me what size the bigger brake hose is that goes into the ABS modulator? I know I should just rip it out and I probably will soon but for now I just need the adapter to finish the job.

Thinking about trying to move the axle as far forward as I can - recommend moving mounts or just longer radius arms? - Frank what ever happened to those arms you were mocking up?

Cut out all the rear wiring today

Before

After (fuel pump and ground)

Left overs

I also measured the trucks overall length today and it is 145" long - 7" shorter than a standard d90

Well I'm to the point where I'm thinking scrap the rest of the body and get a pickup frnot end for it. In the amount of money I will spend fixing floors and making a can I could just buy a bulkheads, doors, cab fenders and a hood..

Let me know of you have any of this stuff in decent shape for cheap.

I have a reasonable bulkhead and front wings cheap - but I'm in Maine so shipping would be a bit high. Unless you're heading this way or we can get a relay team to get it down that way. :)

Can you email me pics and prices?

Replied on D90 as well - bulkhead I think I paid $350 for it and got it from ECR a year/two ago.

Wings $100 for both. they are solid and there but not perfect. Excellent for a trail truck which was my plan with them.

I have a NICE set of SW doors I bought direct from ECR, I think I paid $800 for them, and a hood too that has had the support sand blasted in prep for galv or POR15 etc. Can't recall what i paid for the hood - I'll look.

I also have a NICE low mile like new NAS D90 rear tub.... not that you need that.

All parts I have been hoarding to build the hybrid but I may be just buying a D90.

The bulkhead and wings I am willing to part with alone as I may just buy new ones - the doors/tub/hood I'd rather see go as a set set as if I let them go the idea of building a hybrid my go bye-bye. I'll see about pics, I may have some.

Sweet I'm interested in as many pics of bulkhead, steel doors, hood (if you're willing to sell).. Also interested in a price with those bits and any other pieces you can throw in that will help the build..

I am starting from scratch and dont really know 100% what I need to complete the whole conversion.. Starting with getting the bulkhead mounted and taking it from there

So change of plans (again) If any of you dont know me I have ADD and change my mind every 10 seconds.

SOOOO we are now offically into the "building" stage.. Picked up the 1x1 and started welding pieces into place. The only part I am unsure of is how I am going to get the rear doors completely sealed. Looks like I can bend the lip out and weld it in but I am not sure this is going to work for the whole door. May have to fiberglass part of it when its getting closer to finished.

Got the upper cross member in.. welded a piece in flush with the door panel on the passanger side.. Still need to figure out how I am going to do some parts of the rear panel but we're slowly making progress. Hopefully I will be able to get a ton done this weekend.

Pic of progress
