Thanks for the info. I replaced my fan clutch on the side of the road today.
The nearest auto parts store was AutoZone. I remeber reading this thread and you had mentioned the Torqflo clutch. It came with bolts and lock washers. I did have to trim the fan holes to get it to work. So far so good.
Not bad for being on the side of a 10 lane interstate.
thanks again.

I just replaced my vicous clutch with the imperial 57. As noted you will need to expand the metal mounting holes for the fan. Also of note is that there is no centering ring. The LR piece ensures that the fan blade is centered on the clutch via a centering ring. I would be very careful reaming the holes,if the fan is mounted off-center it will put strain on the water pump. My fan also seems to run very often, maybe I am used to my crapped out one but it is like a cyclone when I rev the engine with the hood open. I can't see needing the heavy duty unless you have other cooling issues like a clogged radiator, maybe hard core crawling at very low rpms.

Alright. I read this whole thread. We have Schucks out here that I thought might carry the Imperial 215157, but they don't carry it anymore. They're saying a Hayden 2626 is their compatible fan clutch.

Is that part gonna work?

Yippee ki-yay mutha trucka! For all future kiddies, part # 215157 Imperial Fan Clutch from Advance Auto (among others) works lovely as Snipe has so lovingly provided.

Parts needed:
Fan clutch 215157 ($66.96)
4 Bolts (Help! kit # 14040 10x1.5x15mm four pack) ($5.98)
10mm drill bit or reamer (had an old bit laying around, think I used a 3/8" bit)

Installation:
Remove your fan blade assembly from the old clutch
Ream out the 4 mounting holes on fan blade assembly to fit the 10mm bolts from the Help! kit
Bolt your fan blade assembly onto the new clutch with your Help! bolts
Reinstall onto your water pump and you are good to go

Shoulda took pictures, but geez, this was probably the easiest thing I've ever done to my truck. Works in a pinch when ya can't wait for mail order goodies or you can't make it to the distance to the dealer cause you're overheating.

Thanks D-webbers for another DIY repair with minimal swearing,
Jen

perfect!!! just did this to mine( '95 d1) , $68.70 for everything:victory::bigok:

The Lou!
Good to know this thread is still helping people out. Lord knows the "search" feature finding info I've needed from the mass of experience and know-how on this site has saved me tons on being able to fix my truck myself...and especially with listing of aftermarket/alternate parts so I'm not robbed by dealer prices.

All praise D-Web, now let's chant, ohmmmm ohmmmm ohmmmm!

Question about this - when reaming the holes, I'm guessing it's imperative that they get drilled out exactly to the size of the bolts? So the fan is exactly on center?

Because I didn't seem to have a drill bit that matched up so I grabbed one that was close...and now I'm not really sure it's centered.

What do you think - will it eat the water pump?

Thx

nope...dont get worried the mass gets centered on the thread on clutch and the fan bolts to that.

the fan weighs nothing and the resistance it makes pushing air will more then counter any off center ness a sloppy drill job could produce.

This swap works like a charm I used 215158 on an 96 DI the best part is if you can put it on a commercial account its even less I paid 44 bucks for it at advanced auto parts.

I have to admit it took me a while to read all of this post and now my eyes are crossed so please bear with the spelling lol.I have been having all the same problems as most of you all.Ill be getting my radiator done this week to at least a 5 core.Ill also be looking for a local parts outlet to see if i can find the new clutch fan.I have already replaced the thermostat with a 86 dagree.I still have to order my replacement hoses .I might as well do all of the hoses at the same time.I do have to gt my electric fans working as i think they are seized.I turn on the AC and they dont come on at all. They dident come on even when the temp guage was well up into the red swhen we were towing our trailer.Every thing i have read points to all of my problems lol.Now its time to get out the wallet and blow off some dust and fix this truck properly.

Here's a question... How the eff do you get the fan clutch removed? I have a big adjustable wrench that fits the nut. I looked on my Rave cd and looked at the land rover special tools needed to replace the clutch; but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to keep the pulley from moving. If this takes 30 minutes can somebody please explain how to do it? How do I stop that dang pulley?

I have a wicked hangover so maybe I just can't think because it's such a simple thing that nobody has mentioned how to stop it from turning.
