A cheap winch works great until it doesn't...
When I was in high school I had a Mile Marker 12k lb winch and had it replaced twice under warranty. I later sold it and bought a Superwinch EPi 9.0 which I still have, and it has never let me down.
Is an 8000# winch sufficient? Found a Warn M8000 new for $470 shipped. But I'm hesitant to go anything below 9000lbs on the heavy ass Disco.
How did you like it? Did the 8000lb seem enough? My gut tells me to go overkill with a 10000lb but the price on the M8000 is so good its hard to pass up.Where did you find the M8000 for that price? That's about what I paid at streetside auto for the same thing, shipped, with a 10% off coupon or something. But the price is higher now. I sold the disco with the winch on it, so I'm looking for another winch. Eventually.
Milemarker electric or hydraulic?
Just noticed the M8000 and M8000-S have different drum diameters. There might be a good reason.
Looking at the CAD drawing dimensions at the bottom of each page.
I have a Pierce 12.5k winch that is well over 10 years old: http://www.piercesales.com/12500lb-Electric-Winch-p/ps654-11mk.htm
Run synthetic line.
Pros:
Worm gear
big fucking handle to release drum
front mounting
Cons:
slow as shit
big handle is ugly
But it has never let me down and I've used it for recoveries and yard work.
