Im ok with steel. But that being said, SW gives the same disclaimer for the LP8500. And Jake has put that thing through hell and back with a rope with no problems. I still feel like its the best bang for the buck. It gets solid reviews and is at a price you can't beat. And lets be honest. Whats an extra 30lbs on top of a Disco with a rack, RTE bumper, heavy DOM steering, panhard, and trailing arms, etc...

Steel sucks balls. It's heavy, likes to kink, is heavy, is less safe due to recoil, is heavy, and is a pain in the ass to wrap around your bumper. This last part is useful when you're winching repeatedly in a certain area and you dont want to keep spooling in/out all your line.

Is an 8000# winch sufficient? Found a Warn M8000 new for $470 shipped. But I'm hesitant to go anything below 9000lbs on the heavy ass Disco.

I have an XD9000 in a $G bumper, I paid $350 for the pair. Best deal ever.
Several of the guys I wheel with have the XRC8 winches and they seem to work well.
You can get them with synthetic rope on Amazon for $500.

I have a Runva winch solenoid/contactor like the Albright version, works good.

Where did you find the M8000 for that price? That's about what I paid at streetside auto for the same thing, shipped, with a 10% off coupon or something. But the price is higher now. I sold the disco with the winch on it, so I'm looking for another winch. Eventually.

How did you like it? Did the 8000lb seem enough? My gut tells me to go overkill with a 10000lb but the price on the M8000 is so good its hard to pass up.

Just noticed the M8000 and M8000-S have different drum diameters. There might be a good reason.

No shit? Hmmm. I did see a video of some guy doing a test on his m8000. He ran it in/out and checked the temp of the drum. It got up to 175* before I stopped watching. He claimed it melted his line. Maybe he had the steel cable version and tossed synthetic on there. You would think Warn would make it known that there is a difference if there was an issue.

**I went to look at the two part numbers. Couldn't find a #(or parts breakdown) for the Synthetic lines version. Where'd you find your info?

Looking at the CAD drawing dimensions at the bottom of each page.

Interesting, the diameter on the Synthetic one is .15" larger.

** I called Warn and dude said the drum is bigger to withstand the force of the Synthetic line. He said putting synthetic on the steel version "isn't recommended".
I dis notice that the drum on the Zeon 8000 is the same between synthetic and wire models, though larger at 3.15".
