I've always powder coated...

Powder coating @ $40 per wheel is well worth it.

Here are some black painted wheels on my truck and after 1 1/2 years they are still holding up OK. It's a tool not a jewel.

Hmm, where I come from, those with the stones to do for themselves are given more respect than those who throw a wallet at their problems. Build a bumper, and it may meet criticism, but only from those who can present their custom bumper which is better. You can't buy credibility off of a store shelf... Sorry Greg.
I said about the same thing a few weeks ago and suddenly had a hard time signing on ;) .
Ok, I wasn't so nice about it and maybe angered a Rover God or 2.
That's about it though. Some people have large check books and no inovation. That's fine, but just don't put other people down for what said check books obviously don't have the have the skills to tackle.

My thoughts:

a. I choose this method over others for personal reasons.
b. I never said it was better/worse than any other method. I was done correctly for what it was.
c. I like black wheels as done many others. If you don't like, hey you are entitled to your opinion.
d. I do "wheel" my truck; this is not my first Disco, this was the best method for me.
e. Thanks to all for the positive comments for which there are many!

Now.....

Greg, your approach was all wrong. You were a flat out ass for whatever reason. I never stated anything about what you claimed in your first post. People just asked questions and I responded. Take it for what it is worth. You want to be an ass, hey you are entitled to that. You have just shown millions that you can be!

Second, I have a hard time figuring out how somone could form such harsh opinions about something when:
a. They have a truck with black wheels
b. Regardless of what method their wheels became black, they look like SHIT!!!!!!!!

Look at the lugnut areas.
Look at the rim.

This is YOUR truck Greg.

Kai the wheels look sweet, and last I heard, no one helped pay for the materials and your time. Do what you want man.

Anyone have a pic of a black DII with black rims?
I'm thinking about it.

JW,
Go to the photo gallery at the top of the page. There are a few black (or dark colored) Discoveries with black wheels. Clay Templeton has a sweet one...

Bam!

I myself wrapped the spokes on my 03 with black electrical tape. When it gets chunked, I just cut off a little more and cover it up. I might upgrade to Babolat Tennis Racket tape at a later date...

Jon,

Where in E LA are you. I work at the fire station at the corner of Pasadena and Ave. 23. I have seen a few nice rovers on Broadway from time to time. Saw a nice trail ready RR on Broadway a few days ago.

Mike - This 95 came with - what do you call them, Cyclone? - aluminum wheels, that neither me nor my son liked. So we procured the straight 5-spoke set, and painted it Alpine White to match the body.
Sure is difficult to keep'em white.

Ahhhhh, so it's *not* a '93. Interesting how I immediately assumed it was from those rims. Funny.

Do you really have a set of those rims for sale? I might run into some $$$ soon, so we'll see how I can spend it. I liked the stock alloys on my S1 (but they were black, so it didn't look to bling against the Bronze Green).

White rims seemed harder to keep clean than stock alloys. :(
