95 DI drivetrain vs. 94 RRC LWB

The transfer case in the Disco is a gear-driven LT-230, that in the RRC is a Borg-Warner, chain-driven with viscous coupling.

The transmissions are nearly identical and with few exceptions are interchangeable.

The engine in the Classic is a multi-Vee belt and that in the Disco is serpentine. The cylinder heads may not have the same bolt patterns allowing for the interchange of ancillaries.

Water pumps, front covers, power steering pumps and alternators are different between the two.

The Disco might have composite gaskets, the RRC almost certainly does not.

Axles and suspension are identical.

This is more what I was concerned with. I possibly have the opportunity to score a 94 LWB with dual ARBs and I was contimplating the idea of swapping out the axles with it and my 95 DI because I'm not particular to the LWB.

The LWB has dual ARBs, axles, etc, roof rack, safari guard front bumper with winch and lights, sliders, rear bumper, decent tires, old OME lift, 90k on the motor.
Has anyone put a 109 body on a LWB frame?

The brake calipers might not bolt up to the swivel housings, but you have those from your Disco if you need to swap them. There is a slight risk that somewhere along the line,t he guts may have been swapped-make sure you have 24-spline axles in the RRC.

edit:the front brake calipers are not interchangeable and depending upon build date, you might not be able to directly swap the calipers between the two trucks. The front rotors are also different.

Many, many have. Search Land Rover Hybrid, not gas/electric and you'll likely find many examples.

Had I known, I might have taken the 4.2 off your hands. You can have it Marty!

I bolted 97 D1 calipers to RRC outers (driver's side from an 87, passenger - from a RHD RRC of unknown vintage).

I just swapped an axle housing from a '95 Disco onto a '93 RRC. The calipers on the '93 had imperial hardware, we had to swap the swivel housings to the axle housing. The change was supposedly mid-'93, but I never trust an older rig to have unmolested hardware on it.

We were able to get the 24-spline stuff to work though!

The knuckles I've had stuff mounted came along with swivel balls and 10-spline axles.
I don't remember which bolts I used - most likely, those that came with the knuckles.
Now that Ron mentioned it - I wish I saved the LWB housing with its bottom shock mounts.

I'm also considering going the Disco or RRC. What are some other differences that people can think of? (ride quality, parts pricing/availability, reliability) Thanks!
