Fresh meat here.. I bougt it off of ebay from a fellow caraholic making room for an 04 disco.. 103k miles and it seems tight from the description but for a manifold tick, I need to drive it 700 miles home on saturday.. any issue driving it that long and far and steady with this little leak ? Thanks guys, I hope I can lurk and learn but in this case I wanted to go ahead and ask..

p.o. is including the upgraded disco gasket and hardware, any tips or tricks other than pb blaster, patience and dropping the exhaust from manifold ..I havent wrenched on a classic in many years.

Many Thanks,

JB

the tick maybe an exhaust leak or valvetrain. Make sure you're topped up on fluids before you go, you should be fine.

PB Blaster and a hammer is the best way to get the old bolts out. Search for the RAVE link here for the manuals.

You'll be fine. I just bought a 95 LWB on Sunday. I drove 500 miles, gave the guy the money, he gave me the keys and I drove 500 miles back without even glancing at the engine. Sometimes it's best to not think about these things.

I would at least check the coolant before you go anywhere, let alone on a 700 mile trip in a new car. Don't put those bolt retainers back on, they are a pain in the ass. If the manifold has been off before you probably won't have to worry about it, but if not you are in for a real treat because those things are a pain.

Sorry pcfrover I am JB not Scott. I used to have a 1990 classic but in the day but licked all the sweet off and donated to public radio. I just wanted to make sure no one chimed in and said - ' whatever you do make sure the heat that is escaping is not directed at blank or blank. ' I will take a cooling off break every 150 miles to be safe. Here is the rover I bought. Anyone recognize it ??? I wont say what I paid for it but I had to have it, there are not many 95swbs left with interiors this nice. And as you know , like a good foot fungus, rover love never really goes away - and can't be killed with drugs..

Thanks all. Good to see old names once again like pt safety engineer / hippy mechanic genius, Randall with the sweet old grey mare hunter..

Just brought my new to me 1995 RRC LWB from FL to MI with just minor issues. It was 1200 miles and the truck drove very well aside from climbing the mountains through NC and WV. That was fun. Otherwise no real issues to speak of. Hopefully your trip home will be as easy as mine was. I was even able to get 300 miles from each tank full. Except in the mountains of course.

I hope i have as good a luck as you Skippy and Hawk. The gas price drop alone will save me quite a bit on the trip.. Anyone here ever see, try or install try the mars air-up system for the EAS bladders -made by carrol industries.. seems like a great way to avoid ever riding on bump stops due to EAS failure.. this may be my first upgrade

'she's my summer love in the spring fall and winter, she can make happy any man alive' know that one PT :)

Check the coolant and watch the gauges and try not to worry. Write my number down for shits and giggles as you are driving through my neck of the woods with air suspension.

"She takes the wheel when I'm seein' double, pays my tickets when I speed!"

I've heard it a few times!

W/R/T EAS, the easiest and dirtiest way to get around it is with two shrader valves, two pipe tees and ssome compression fittings. manually air it up and away you go!

Check the steering joints before your head out. On my 95 SWB every one, including pitman arm nut, were loose - I've tightened all I could, but 500 miles down I-5 were somewhat less relaxing.

Thanks Drillbit I hope I never call.. I'll stay over in Louisville for the night for some fattire beer and catch the Jim Lauderdale show. The EAS valve block has been totally rebuilt, new bladders and compressor -- turns out the p.o. is a euro mechanic and knows his business so I feel very fortunate. He is also throwing in some arnot updated bladders for the rear and spares for the front too.. I will buy the 'buddy' reset tool to keep handy. Of course my next question is can I fit 34's on it without tricking the EAS into super high mode and leaving it there.. maybe I can slip pucks under the air bag bases to give it 2 inches of lift all around or would that impact the sensors and send me to hard faut ville ?

im in bham kalahari..

Probably, if you're only going to drive it up and down an airstrip.

I think most of those who successfully run >33's have at least 4 inches of lift with some trimming, or lesser lift with a lot of trimming.

Drove 700miles at 85mph straight to get home in the rover , no issues, ran like a dream getting 15mpg, all new igntion and p.o is a rover/porsche/lotus mechnic so this thing is tuned perfectly. p.o. had 6k+ in parts receipts from roversnorth, He offroaded it hard but took great care of it. The wife is thrilled with EAS, lower it for the dog and kids then raise it up and go. NRP exhaust sounds like a v8 should. Only thing I need to do is enjoy it.. then lift it and offroad it even harder in a few years when the kids can walk to school. I will get detroit, beamach coils, double cv driveshaft and trim to fit 34s. Stock stereo is very good too. An nc rover that spent 4 years in Cleveland so light surface rust.. nothing bad .

I may be out of tune here - but, there are too few clean 95s around to hack it into an offroad truck. Keep it stock, and get yourself a 95-98 beater D1.
