Ahhh Wash State! I used to live there in the 90's. Olympia area. I won't be going that way this time, but perhaps the next. Thanks for the offer.

I will join the Birmabright Brotherhood for sure. Thanks for the tip.

Good stuff. I'm glad I have the roof rack!!!!! Looks like I'm going to have a storage bin up there full of Rover spares! Ha. In all of my previous trips I've never planned so much for vehicle break downs. I was always in Toyotas.

This is exactly the reason why he should take the Toyota instead of the Land Rover ! I would not trust the Land Rover for half the distance he's driving.

You're going to have a very fun trip. :applause:

Cheers,

Kennith

I sure hope so man! I guess the worse that could happen is I have to call for help on the Sat Phone and camp out for a few days until they arrive. Then fly to Calgary, rent a car, and pick up the family and finish the trip. So I think I'm going to have a good time and a nice adventure. With the reliability of the Rover providing some sense of the "unknown" and actual adversity.

I'm also registering my 30/30 in Canada, so I can have a firearm with me. Sucks I just can't bring my .357, but Canada won't allow me in with it. Long guns are legal though, so at least I will have some heat.

That is a fair statement. Come July 1st, I will need to decide. By June 1st my Disco should be finished with all the prep, if it acts up after that, then I will take the Tundra in a heart beat. So far though, my motor and tranny is good and all the other stuff won't leave me stranded with proper prep and having spares.

You never know though, that is what the bag of cash, sat phone, and 30/30 is for.:D

Hell, a real man would just leave the house with nothing but a bag of cash, knife, roll of duct tape, a 30/30, and a destination.....

I'd jump in my 98 D1, and go to Alaska in a heartbeat if I had the time or money. Would be a great adventure for sure. I was looking at a D1 in OR and was going to drive it back to TX, but I found one locally instead at the last minute.

Just be prepared like a Boy Scout, have a good supply of tools, spare parts, and survival stuff. Then gas up and go for it!

Where is the fun in that?

I did however drive from Seattle to Philly hauling a trailer without a single spare part, never had a problem.

That list is just for consideration, bring what ever you want or feel you will need. :victory:

Yeah, like I said, a Land Rover is a real "adventure" vehicle!!!! You just don't know what will happen. Just hop in and go see "if" you can make it back.

I might take his advice though on switching up guns. I have a .12 gauge I'll take instead.

My brother bought a 66 109 Safari Wagon near Brownsville, TX, and drove it home to Boerne, TX after just a test drive. Zero issues except it was leaking oil (checked at every stop and topped off). Later found the main oil line simply needed to be tightened. Had a good adventure and plenty of people waving!

Don't be such a sally. Any car/truck is only as reliable as you make it. Most LRs (on this board at least) seem to be reliable enough bc we understand you need to keep on top of them. I see plenty of threads on ExPo with Tacos and 4Runners breaking because the owners have the "it's a yota" mentality and think they are invincible.

That list is just for consideration, bring what ever you want or feel you will need. :victory:

x2. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Really ! How long have you owned your 95 D1 ?. I have owned my 95 D1 for twenty long years . I got my first experience with Land Rover reliability when i drove it off the dealers lot and it stalled out a mile or so away and had to be towed back to the dealer...That's right less then 5 fucking minutes after driving away with a brand new truck it breaks down. The Center Manager,Service Manager both were scratching their heads and could not figure out why it died.

My comment still applies. I'm sorry yours sucks, mine's been fine for the year and a half I've owned it. If you're really that bitter about it, why do you still have it?

What comment is that ? It is only as reliable as you make it. So you have owned your used twenty year old Land Rover for a year and a half and had no problems so far. I 'm happy for you.

Please enlighten me as to how to keep on top of them and make them reliable.

I also have a 2000 4Runner and the only expensive item that needed to be replaced in 15 years was the cats and that was two years ago. Land Rover - Toyota reliability, there is no comparison..NONE !

P.S. I have been on this board since it started . I took some time off here for personal reasons and recently came back obviously under a different name.

It's a truck, not a UFO. Discos also been around a while and the "weaknesses" are pretty well known. If you've been on the board since it started I would think you'd know what sort of things should be checked once in a while and what should be checked often.
