My brother is visiting from out of state. He has a nasty cold and is quite miserable so he went to the store to get some pseudoephedrine. Well, he's from out of state so they won't sell it to him, which means I have to take time off from work to go buy him some.
Thank you politicians! :banghead:

When I mentioned it to my wife she suggested I tell him to go find a meth lab and see if they'd sell him some.

I wish they would make is prescription here. Meth is a nasty thing and in Oregon when they made it prescription meth address went down 90 something percent.

I find this to be so stupid. What would have happened if he had proffered his passport as ID?

I have a scrip for "mixed amphetamine salts". Wal-Mart refused to accept my passport as ID to fill the scrip-until I called the Pharmacy review board.

The really stupid part of these laws is the fact that the VAST majority of methamphetamine that is in the US comes from Mexico where they're making it 22 litres at a time.

But, it's easier to inconvenience the law abiding than it is to deal with the Mexican drug gangs.

I don't know about the meth in Indiana but in Kentucky they make it here. They are busting meth labs every week here and I am told by people in the know that Sudifed sells for 80 bucks a box to the cookers.

There are certainly folks cooking their own, but how much can they make in a batch compared to the gangs slinging 22 litres worth at a time?

I'd hate to think how much my scrip is worth-each month.

Fucking meth... What the hell is wrong with a joint and a mountain dew, for fuck's sake?
That's the problem, as long as drugs are illegal people will find other ways to get high and cottage industries will spring up to support them. People will substitute something else once meth is hard to get, then we can have something else we have to "register" with the government to buy, like we do now with pseudoephed.

The link didn't work, but I saw it in the local newspaper (judging by the link URL).

But, acknowledging that the majority of our greatest (for today at least) scourge is coming from a country with which we share a border but are unwilling to even begin to control does nothing to further the .gov agenda to control the citizenry and break down anyone who might even think they are free.

Yeah, it's a run-on sentence-whatchgonnadoaboutit?

Why should we control our border when we can generate so much revenue by conducting border checks 100 miles from the border? Why recognize that the biggest source of meth is Mexico when we can use the fear we've mongered to further require one to present "their papers"?

My "socialist Slavery" card states right on it, "not to be used for identification" yet how often is it used as such?

I am hoping for change-every day!

Mexico is where most of the meth is being made. Just last week Mexican Federales seized 15 tons, yes, 15 tons:

http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/story/2012-02-09/mexico-pure-meth/53027790/1

GUADALAJARA, Mexico (AP) – Mexican troops have made a historic seizure of 15 tons of pure methamphetamine in the western state of Jalisco, an amount equivalent to half of all meth seizures worldwide in 2009.

Last year I read in the Houston Chronicle a story about how there was a lab bust in Mexico that siezed ~500 tons of precusor chemicals (which only superceded the ~300 tons seized a few months earlier).

Of course, this was after we had to institue an inventory of all chemistry glassware in our labs (a couple hundred), regardless of size - 5ml or 5 gal, didn't matter. (Note: universities are exempt from this inventoring). It would be like asking a restaurant to keep track of all their dishes, plates, utensiles, etc. under penality of jail/fine.

Thanks Texas!

I hadn't heard they were doing that. I suppose next on the list will be having to ID yourself and go on a list when you buy a pyrex measuring cup at the store.

Shhhh....you want DEA knocking on your door?

I was thinking the same thing, looking at the posts he's made in this thread, and the picture of a bunch of cars in his yard as his avatar...

It's been on the books since 1989 - but we didn't even know about it until last year (and we were one of the largest chemical companies - and we weren't sure what an "adapter tube" is).

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/RegulatoryServices/narcotics/narcprecursor.htm

In 1989, the statute was amended and requires anyone who sells, transfers, furnishes, or purchases certain precursor chemicals or certain laboratory apparatus to be regulated by DPS.

"Chemical laboratory apparatus" means any item of equipment designed, made, or adapted to manufacture a controlled substance or a controlled substance analogue, including:
