OK, I have no experience with POR-15. Living in Indiana, I just pretty much accept that the same processes that allow life on earth to exist are going to eventually eat my vehicles (reduction/oxidation/entropy) :banghead:

If POR-15 is that good at keeping paint on a surface AND preventing rust, go for it!

Funny thing...I have no experience with POR15 but have heard the testimonials from friends that it's the bomb. Actually, it's supposed to be painted right on surface rust (really bubbled stuff - no); that it "bonds" to the rust, seals it, and prevents it from growing. Supposedly it's not good on just bare metal. It's also supposed to be really gooey/stickey.

Like you, I've just grown to accept rust (red/oxy/entropy - that's classic:applause:) and keep PB Blaster and a set of taps/dies/extractors on hand.

re-emphasis

that looks like something I would like to do in the future, but it's a bit more than I want/can spend right now. Once I sell the parts that are being replaced, maybe... but I need to put something on this bad boy before it goes under the shortbus!

that does look like a nice little project next summer though.

I just used that rustoleum that you brush on recently and it did a great job. I wire brushed all the surface rust first and then just glooped on... looks fine.

I've been using a wire wheel on my grinder like crazy! Does it apply evenly or leave brush strokes?

It evened out pretty good, it's not going to look like a powder coat job by any means, but it was fairly quick and painless.

I'll try and snap some pics over the weekend for you...

Cool, you don't have to take pics though, I'm hoping to have it welded up in the morning so I can paint it after. I was just curious about the paint you used because I think it will apply thicker than spray paint.

As long as it last a fair amount of time and I keep the surface rust off I'm happy!

Matt go to the local checker, shucks, or kragen, and get a can of the DUPLICOLOR truck bed coating rattle can, its not like herculiner, its more of a thicker spray paint, I painted my bumpers and sliders in it. It holds up great, and last for a while.. OHh plus its cheap!

Do it right the first time or don't do it at all Matt. But then again you are out west so you don't have the rust problem we have in the East. You can grind and rattle can if you like but that rust will re appear as soon as you see moisture.

It's hard to beat the $7/quart price!

When I painted the interior floor of my Disco, I had grandiose plans of using a roller, etc. Shopboy and I ended up pouring it onto the floor and spreading it around with paint brushes.

Xmillion on POR 15 - the stuff is absolutely incredible. Do it right the first time and you won't have to do it ever again.

haha, smart ass....

I think it looks great! this project has been a lot of fun. I'm wondering if a little dweb toy writeup is in order? The only one I've come across was Alex's on pirate from a few years ago.
