Am I missing something, what's the deal with shortbody reservoir vs regular reservoir.

I can get a 12" travel regular that goes from 19" compressed to 31" extended
Or I can get a 14" travel short body travel that goes from 19" compressed to 33" extended

Is there a reason I wouldn't go with the shortbody 14" travel over the 12 standard?

Bilstein is telling me 4 week lead time for custom 400/100 valving, so I have time to waste.

Would you actually be able to use all of a 14" travel shock? 33" extended is pretty long.
If you can't use all of a 14" travel shock there's not much point to buying them.

Almost exact prices at downsouthmotorsports, eshocks, and lucky8. Shorts are cool but you won't use all that shock travel.

I'm ordering direct from Bilstein so it's a bit less than those, but my main question is, is there a problem with having the extra travel? It's not like I'm getting a shorter compressed length with less travel.

If you order Fox from Southdown they custom valve them in house. They got mine to me in a lil over a week cross country. Valved 95/100 with 225psi of Nitrogen.

If you can use all the shock travel then get the 14" SB. If not get the 12" regular body and skip the wait time.

Not that I have anything against Fox, I just have a connection for Bilstein and I've always liked them.

I hear ya. I have a buddy whose race buggy is sponsored by Downsouth...got a hella sweet discount on Kings through him but the discounted Fox 2.0s were still a much more financially feasible move.

It took putting the rear upper mounts on the floor of the D1 to fit 12" Fox. Had to do a little hammering to fit the nut on the stud.

if you have a connection for Bilstein then why are you waiting 4 weeks for shocks?

fwiw, running 12" travel standard emulsion 7100's is 31" extended. i have probably the longest brake lines rte ever made and they almost max out in the front with 10" travel emulsion 7100's....which is a puny 26" fully extended.

im going to run 12" emulsion 7100's once i get longer brake lines made.

not being a dick, just curious how you're brake lines are going to handle that down travel. also if you're running less than 36" tires you will be shoving those 12" travel shocks up their ass at ride height.
sitting on 36" tires my front 10" 7100 emulsions have 6" of piston exposed.

if you plan on running big boy tires then disregard this post i see where you're going, but if you are sitting on 33's or something stick with 10" emulsion 7100's.

Bilstein custom builds the 7100s, it seems stupid, I know.

I realize they're 31s extended, but they're 19.53" compressed, just like the 14" short bodies.

I haven't sorted out what I'll use for brake lines, +4" probably aren't going to suffice, but I'm not sure where else to go. I've got the extended ABS lines, not that I care though as I'm locked.

When I went out and measured while flexing on a mount, 19.5" was about where the tire was tucking and I'll be placing the bump stops.

Not that I want the brake lines to prevent axle droop, I'm not sure letting the shocks fully extend is any better. Maybe straps or something...

So you're leaving a .03" safety margin on full compression?

For brake lines I got the 25" ones from www.paragonperformance.com
They even offered a DiscoWeb discount so they came in around $92 shipped.
They don't list anything for D2's but given all the other vehicles they make lines for I'm sure they could do them. The guy was real helpful on the phone.

Well I'll place the bump stops a little below that, so I should have .5-1" of shock travel left. I'll check those lines out, thank you.
