I am in need of a new kind of boots to wear. I have worn Doc Martens for forever. The first pair I got when I was 16 still hasn't failed but I wore the sole smooth. I have bought two pair since then and didn't get a year out of either one. I have been wearing Rocky's since then and am getting about the same out of them. Does anyone make boots that last anymore? I had though about going high end but they all make you look like a storm trooper or are "upland bird" style. I just want a 8 or 10 eye low profile boot (steel toe preferable) and don't say red wings.

If it still says made in Italy, you should be ok. I used to wear docs all the time, last few were crap. I recently (3 months ago maybe) bought a pair of Timberland pro something or other, steel toes, made in China but they have already seen a years use and still clean up nice. Got them on sell at gander mtn for 99 bucks, beat 250 for the Merills I wanted.

I recently bought a pair of Carolina loggers on the 'guide for ~$130, I really like them so far, but in terms of longevity, I don't have enough time in them to speak. They seem extremely well made and nearly indestructible so far though.

You could always get your old Doc Martens resoled...

I wear Keen boots for work, last me about 6-7 months, but I walk about maybe 25 +/-miles a week. The boots a comfortable as hell, on my 4th pair? Love them.

I'll second the Keens, i wear mine 24/7, and walk several miles a day in them. They are the only shoes i've ever owned that didnt make my feet hurt by the end of the day.

combat boots, cheap you can get steel toe and last a long damn time under normal usage :D
For work type stuff and to beat on, sure, but IMO if you wear a pair of combat boots daily (as a civilian in public), you might as well add cammo bottoms and a boonie hat to match.

What about Danners ? I dig the lower hiking style, all leather boots they have. I got a pair of the tall brown/Gore Tex ones for cold weather and those things are real good. The regular hiking boots types that I have had thus far, Merrell and a few other name brands I cannot currently recall, all ended up not lasting nearly as long as anticipated. The rubber and other crap came unglued and they also lost their original shape pretty quickly. IMO you can't go wrong with an all leather, well put-together boot with proper stitching, etc. I dig Danners, but I am sure others will chime in with good options as well.

Red wings, I wear mine 365 days a year and I don't sit much during the day. I get 2 years plus out of a pair and change my insole's every 6 months or so. I used to wear ecco's but I just can't take the added heat from the liners anymore. I take comfort in knowing a little boy didn't make my boots

Do you want molded or flat soles?

On a side note.. Do you have any pics of a pickle keg and how much would it take to get one shipped to me?

I used to wear these exclusively and I used to be able to get the pants too. Now everyone is using them and they are harder to get.

I was dissapointed when they went to a codura top and that stupid mil dot camo.

Give me back all leather boots and some desert camo and I will buy (read borrow) again.

When they moved the manufacture of Docs several (several) years ago, the quality went down fast. I have had a pair of Grinders since they moved the Doc plant. They have actually lasted longer than my first pair of original Docs did.

You using for only work or out and about as well? If only for work, look at Red Wings, not the most stylish but comfy and will last....

marty, i used to wear doc's until they would literally fall apart, as most of us punks did....before they became fashionable and sold at the mall, and made in china.

i got a pair of blundstones....they are also made in china, but they do the trick. you can still get the UK docs, but they are expensive as fuck. i wear the blundstones at work sometimes, non slip works good while standing in trans fluid and coolant, put some more wax on them and wear them out. had them about 2 years now and they are still holding up.

I will second the Carolina's. I had these (no flame suit needed) back in the 90's. wore them puppy's 24/7 for 8 years (not shit'n you). in that time i had to resole them twice. the only reason I do not have them now is, the leather on the inside of the heel finally had worn through.

A friend of mine swears by Chippewa boots.

at the job, the company pays for my Red Wings to a certain $ point.

Others to consider but pricey:

Wesco never had them, but know people that did.
Hoffman's. when the RW's go these are coming in.

I wear boots at work and off. I have been wearing the logger style for many a year now. the bad part is, my feet and back have grown accustom to them. if i wear anything else for a long period of time. i will feel it in both my feet and back. hell, I've been off work for 5 hrs. now and still have them on.

none of your fucking business
Wolverines are junk, I hear redwings will just last fucking forever.

Also, I have a pair of montrails that I really like but, haven't had them long enough to recommend them to anyone.
