Collections Agency / Insurance Claim

A while ago I received a letter from a collections agency saying that I was involved in an accident and I was supposed to pay them $475 as well as a similar letter from Geico insurance. I called Geico to find out what the accident was about and they said that I supposedly hit another vehicle and left the scene. Of course this was complete nonsense and it was probably a bottom feeder out there that saw a scrape on my car and reported to Geico that I had run into their car and left the scene.

I promptly called my insurance company who was able to call off Geico and their collections agency. They did an investigation and told Geico that they weren't going to pay. This was a few months ago.

Yesterday, I received a letter from a new collections agency looking to collect the $475.

Is there anything I can do to get Geico to back off? Are there government agencies that I can contact to report this? I've never had to deal with anything like this, so I would appreciate if anyone could provide some insight on how they have handled these situations.

Tell the collections agency that you dispute the claim and until they can prove the validity of the claim against you that they should fuck off. Take them to small claims court and make sure the exspunge your record of any negative arising from their collection effort.

When I was a teenager my brother and sister left a shop light under a house we rented and started a fire. The insurance company paid out the guy who owned it and for years would send my dad random bills for their losses. A lawyer told my dad to just throw them away and they eventually stopped, no harm to his credit.

i have one of those letters on my desk right now from Jan 12th 2006.
I plainly wrote "I Dispute" over their offficial notice in big black marker, signed it, faxed it to them....... and never heard another peep from them. does not show up on my credit report either, I did that free credit report thingy not too long ago.

Ask them for a copy of the accident report and all other records from the crash.

I have found the best way to make an insurance company and collection agency is to demand full rights of discovery and ask for things that would require huge amounts of time and would embarrass them.

It worked for me on many occasions when I've fired insurance companies and they said I continued to owe them money.

When Erie canceled me for my having a CCW and then tried to sue me for the premiums, I told them to file suit and I'd bury them in discovery motions. This went on for a while until I counter-sued and exercised my rights to discovery. They folded, but I still have to indicate that I've had insurance canceled.

Isn't there an Insurance Bureau or State Cooperation Commission you can report this to?

just call everyone and make it a pain in the ass for the Geico gecko and he'll abandon his cause.

LOL, when I was cleaning out the garage (attached) to make room to move the contents of the now machine shop, I found a box with the correspondence between Erie and another insurance company.

It was entertaining to see the lengths I went to essentially bluff them both out of thinking I was gonna give them a single cent!
