A sign that tells criminals that there is probably a gun in the vehicle. Perfect. <eyeroll>

Speaking of that, I saw a truck driving down the road the other day that had the Apple Logo and it said I Pac.

I don't do decals and stuff but there are TONS of NRA stickers on autos here. I'm not so sure advertising the NRA is a good or bad idea.

The reason I got my CCW is because everyone sees the law differently. One officer says a gun laying on the seat is open carry while the other says it has to be on the dash because the seat is not plain view. This all may get hammered out in court but that's a pain in the ass. I know because it happened to me via Virginia State Police.

So VA is the same as NC in that respect? So dash is a crazy place to set your weapon but it's in sight, passenger seat may be better but now in concealed. I'm with you, sat through the 8 hour class and got the permit. Glad I did it, learned a lot as well.

Let's add when you purchase a gun in NC and you have a permit it makes the whole process MUCH easier.

Having the federal government involved in any carry rights is asking for trouble.

That's a real good point. Why set the precedent that Congress can dictate what should be left up to the states.

Just because it works in our favor now (Republican controlled Congress/Pres), it may not later.

See: Obamacare, current state of affairs in Congress.

The problem is the states (particularly the ones NOT listed above) are seen to be to restrictive on gun laws surrounding lawful gun owners. Luckily, a lot of us don't live in these states but the ones that do are burdened. What's the option, move, get the feds involved? I side with you two, the feds shouldn't be involved but I feel reciprocity between all 50 would be a great thing.

Of course it would be a great thing. But that's not how the Republic works. States have the right to decide for themselves how they want to govern (10th Amendment).

Pretty sure you wouldn't like it if the powers that be in the northeast decided to tell you how to live in NC (that whole, "We should decide, not Washington!" thing), just like they don't want you telling them how to live.

And, yes, the option is move. Vote with your feet.

I grew up in a rural part of NJ. Most of the people who live there hunt, own guns, elect Republicans. But I'd never move back because the rest of the state - the majority - is liberal. "Peoples Republic of New Jersey" is not that far off the mark.

Not so fast, legislation has and will continue to be passed that are uniform throughout all 50. Working together at the state level isn't a new idea. So yes, a Republic can work that way. They just choose not to. Many states model new laws after each other. Guns, they're the devil in the hands of law abiding citizens so you hit roadblocks.

The only truly uniform laws (modeling is not the same as uniform) are those passed by Congress. And since the broadening of Congressional (and federal law) power to dictate to the states has been based on the powers of the Commerce Clause (way overreaching, IMO), it's kind of hard to see how concealed carry can be given any kind of fig leaf related to commerce.

But yes, working at the state level to change the laws on a state by state basis is the way to go. But that will (almost always) mean there are states that don't agree, don't change. Ex: on the whole, CO is an awesome state. But they ban magazines that hold >15 rounds, and Denver bans assault rifles.:( WTF CO?

Speaking of CO...I agree, weed is a very good example.

I doubt TN will ever legalize weed - yet it's probably grown in bumper crops in the mountains, we're damn near the meth capital of America :)ack:) and just about everyone celebrates the heritage of moonshine these days. I guess it'll be 80 years until they come around.

I always tell them that I'm armed, even though it seems that I have no duty to. I have the dome lights on and my hands open and on top of the steering wheel as they approach. I also don't act like a dick.

Very darn helpful, thanks for this. Hands on wheel and tell them if you're going for the console or glove compartment for sure.
