What year is the truck? It appears to have the early headlights but newer cupholders.

In the video you mention that the Eli had installed an Ashcroft locker. I would assume that the early DII already had the locking cdl case and he just added the shifter linkage.

Ponies,
That is an '02 (goose owns it now). It had an lt230 without the stud so he swapped t-cases and added the cable shifter.

If goose owns it now it still doesn't have a stud!

I'm thinking Justin thinks there are still guys out there that believe traction control actually helps off road.

You obviously think it doesn't, going from your comments?

For most drivers who are not 'off-roaders' in your sense of the word, TC is a very useful system that saves spinning wheels on wet grass and mud/snow, and saves you having to stop, engage CDL and re-start again.

That's useful for most folks, and I don't know that many drivers who can second-guess TC, HDC and ABS.

If you're an 'off road into the rocks' driver then a D2 probably wasn't the best truck anyway.

TC works, period. It may not work in every situation but it does work. I've seen it work with my own eyes on orher peoples trucks and I drive a D1.

Goose installed a shoe rack for his loafers.

I thought the ashcroft was the cable mounted through the dash? How is it different from just adding a DI shifter assembly?

From the guy who started this thread. But then again I don't know if I should wear it now that I've been told D2's aren't the best choice for off roading.

Of course it works.
The question is how, and what it is good for. Seeing a D2 without a CDL or lockers on the rocks makes any compassionate fellow miserable.
Occasionally, on loose hillclimbs, D2 with ETC is better than a D1 with open diffs and CDL. Yet failed hillclimbs is what D2 was blamed for in the rags.

Discoveries were never designed to be competition vehicles, that they do as well as they do is a testament to their build & design, but I'd never go rock climbing in one, it just isn't the right tool for the job.

Now, get one of the special competition builds with Disco mechanicals and spaceframe chassis, now you're talking, and yes, I would want TC on that kind of rig, just lockers and CDL.

^are you hungry like the wolf?

It's an old Duran Duran hit that my sons still like, it was on the 'Arena' album which we have, but I much prefer 'The Chaffeur' off that album.

1984, the best 80's stuff had gone by then, but still some decent music around.

Any relation to J K Widener on Smokstak?

I may have to call him. I've already got an "ice hat" like he was showing off. In true land rover fashion, it broke the first time I wore it.

their first and second album were the only 'real' duran duran, its not my opinion its a fact. its like the cult, anything after electric was terrible. you are correct about 1984 being the cut off date, but there were still a handful of decent albums after that.
your sons have good taste, Rio is timeless.

have no idea what a smokstak is.
